PHP on winblows is not fun sometimes.....
this is a system admin problem, not a programmer problem, you should have a smart system administrator fix this in 2 minutes or so.....

on some hosts, you have to save the file as file.php5, not file.php
also on some hosts you have to start all PHP blocks with
<?php
not
<?

need more info. who is your host?
IIS? apache? maybe your server is configured to use php4/php5 extensions? could be a number of things.

if it's a windows IIS box, all the .htaccess directives in the world won't fix it since those are specific to apache. I'd just contact your host and ask.

in plesk, server > statistics will tell you your OS, and server > component info will list your php version.

Thanks acescence. Given up and emailed support so will have to sit tight. Cheers.

one thing in plesk, when you add a domain you won't get the php component installed if you don't tick the php box. click on the domain and click setup under hosting and make sure the php box is checked.

Is there a way to add it afterwards?

under server > component info, first check that the php module is installed. if it's not, it's probably easiest to have your host handle it.
if it is installed, select the specific domain in the control panel and click the setup icon under hosting, there you can enable php by just ticking the box and saving changes.
