On Kanye sampling Drukqs’ “Avril 14th” on My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’s “Blame Game”: “Is it a sample? I actually don't know what it ended up being in the end, I'm so slack. I know that he tried to fucking rip me off and claim that he'd written it, and they tried to get away with not paying. I was really helpful, and when they first sent it to me, I was like, ‘Oh, I can re-do that for you, if you like,’ because they'd sampled it really badly and time-stretched it and there was loads of artifacts. I was like, ‘I'll just replay it for you at that speed if you want.’ And they totally didn't even say ‘hello’ or ‘thanks,’ they just replied with, ‘It's not yours, it's ours, and we're not even asking you any more.’” [laughs]

- I still have an MC 303, but it does not have the status of the 303, although It can play similar soundsMiguex
- they have become a collector item now, I hear back in the day you can snatch em for $200 bucksMiguex
- You mean the Groovebox? Yeah, I played around with that.ukit
- i'm building a x0xb0x right now. jut gathering parts.
http://3.bp.blogspot…prophet - I have friends who have both x0xb0x and TB303.. and to be honest, they sound identicalautoflavour
- MC303 sounds nothing like a TB.. mind you want to get one with the devilfish modautoflavour
- yeah, the mc303 was actually made from a mix of all roland's hit at the time, you just haven't used it too long :)Miguex
- it also has kits from the original 808, 909 and 707Miguex
- they are not identical since its based on samples from those machines, but to say "sounds nothing like it" its a stretchMiguex

This came on YouTube as a recommendation last night, I don’t think I’ve watched anything as cool as this in as long as I can remember. I don’t have a clue what’s going on here. Musician though I am, this type of stuff with programmed beats and samplers is completely above my head.
This is so badass.
Unrelated to that video, and unrelated to this thread being bumped this week, I’ve been listening Aphex Twin a lot this week, and it just blows my mind how insanely creative that guy is.

I've revisited the Ambient works from the early 90's recently. My hot take is that it was his peak.
The glitchy spluttery stuff i really never got my head around, and i actually think this more straightforward edit of Windowlicker improves it by a mile
(waits for community opprobrium)
- That Blackbox track below is pretty bloody ambient if you ask me. I guess any artist is going to go deeper and deeper into their craft in someway or anotherIanbolton
- I get what you mean though. He's coming from a jungle/techno background so there's always gonna be some mad shit mixed in with it allIanbolton
- Sorry, that's a dismally dull remix of Windowlicker.Nairn

not into the merch shite mainstream $ grab
c'mon, Richard D. James! get a grip.
- He's gotta make $ somehow. No one buys music anymore lolyuekit
- I think it's fairly tongue in cheek, given it's referred to as "Aphex Twin - A Retail Opportunity", and personally, I'm eyeing up the towel and the brolly...Nairn
- I'd not be too surprised if it's all a pisstake, not actually ending up on sale anyway.Nairn
- @yuekit i have no problem spending top $ to see him perfoorm live more often. There are ways to make BIG $ with his art (not merch)chukkaphob
- Surely his merch is his is art. All part of the pantomime?Ianbolton
- nah. stupid money grab BSchukkaphob
- #SellOutchukkaphob
- Haha. He still ambiguous enough to be relevant though. And his merch is only a small range of things. Chill out a bit!Ianbolton
- nah. stupid money grab BS! #SellOutchukkaphob
