In general, How much more does it cost to print a invite thats a custom size qty 1000, rather than a standard size?

in my times dealing with printers, it was always down to square feet, shape of the job never differed as to them it is just a print job no different.
but i am no expert in this answer what so ever.. so keep asking..

most printers will offer 1 custom trim at a 90 degree cut from any edge for free, after that there is usually a small fee, for a thousand- usually less then $20

so I can do something thats like 4.3 inches x 7.1 for basically the same price as 5 x 7?

should be able to get it 4.3"x7" for the same price. cant really cut something a 1/10" larger though.

how much more would 7.1 inches be?

You should talk your printer. It depends on the number of colors, the press the job is going on, bleeds, paper/sheet size, etc.

When you say it's 7.1 inches, is that flat or folded? Are you putting this into an envelope?

next standard card size up is 5.5"x8.5" - one cut free, second cut $20 or less normally- some places as little as $3-4 per thousand, depends on your printer, but that would get you down to 4.3"x7.1"

Why the seemingly arbitrary dimensions? Why not a nice even 4x7", or 4x6? Unless you have an good reason for this dimension i would stick with something more basic.
Also, you should really just talk to your printer about this. The format isn't odd enough to warrant any extravagant charges, but it may affect the job in such a way as they wont be able to get as many on a press sheet as say a 4x7 or 4x6 and that will ultimately cost you more.

When I have print questions, I talk to a printer. But that's just me.
