I can't understand why companies don't take a loss to gain market share. Samsung's Galaxy is facing a losing battle, unless I am missing something. It is smaller, costs more and you need a contract vs. the iPad. Not exactly reasons to jump onto a manufacturer with little track record.
Seems like 99.9% are doomed if they don't wake up and realize the barrier to entry is large and they need to take a big loss to get that market share.

^isn't it illigal to sell at a loss to gain sales and Market share? There is a term for it.
I know super markets often have products which are sold at a loss and are known as 'Loss leadwrs'. Often used to headline the advert and give percieves savings to all products.
- probably, but you can 'subsidize' the cost, as they do with every cell phone/serviceformed
- are you thinking 'dumping'?

I stumbled across this viewsonic tablet I've not really heard of before. Seems to have amazing specs, 1.6ghz atom CPU, 1 gig ram, 16gb ssd drive! With micro sd slot. Same price as the ipad.
Comes with windows 7 and android 1.6 as stock. Looks great -

^yeh I spotted that too on the tech sites I visit.
Good to see some strong android competition getting sales.

Yup, it is good to see the competition is at least selling. Hopefully they'll keep lowering the price and offer something competitive (sans contract, do you really need one?).
- Hombre_Lobo_20
BARGAIN. best spec ive seen yet at that price.
10" capacitive screen
Intel Atom N455 1.6Ghz CPU
1GB 1333Mhz DDR3 Memory£350
no hdmi though :/
And it comes with windows 7 pre-installed. A hack for an android OS wouldnt be too difficult i imagine.

did you go for the archos 70? looks pretty sweet,
people say the 256mb of ram isnt much, but if it plays everything and doesnt slow down (which it doesnt in videos ive seen), what does it matter!

I still don't understand why these tablets are so expensive compared to a keyboard-less netbook..... will they drop in price sometime soon?
- Not while people are willing to contemplate buying a crippled laptop for $900:)abettertomorrow
