So, how does one go in and present the new logo design, without getting the whole thing ripped to shreds, with the clients demanding changes to font, color, composition, and everything else?
- dbloc0
umm. I just post it online and I'm done.

if you have time, mock the logo up on products, signage, billboards, car wrap, price tags, etc... anything that the logo might be seen on. clients get excited and start loving the logo when they it in context.
- THIS! If you show it on a business card and it looks good, they tend to forget their backseat designer ways.orrinward

You have to believe in it. Your enthusiasm for the design should come through in the presentation. Also, show application of the logo in real situations, like iCanHasQBN has suggested.

Prepare them for it first. Give a brief explanation of your process and the rationale behind the direction you went *before* they see it.
Then show the applications (stationery, the side of a van, the top of their building, whatever), and variants (single colour/greyscale/etc).

honestly, it really is all about selling it. If you get excited about it, they will too.

Well, what do you do when someone says, "I don't like those colors?" Or, "Couldn't you have done something with shadows?" And one guy is going, "the only way to do it is black-on-white," and the other is going, "what we really want is something subtle, with some nice colors to it."
- last resort: flash them your boobs.iCanHasQBN
- figure out who's in charge and try to address him and let him deal with the committee.bjladams

wouldn't you want the intelligence of your client from beginning to end? if it's a good logo, perhaps there would be nothing to say?
- This is a recipe for disaster. Consulting at every step of the way means you'll get requests for 20 variations at every step.i_monk
- Plus daily whims. "I saw a logo with a dog in it on my way home, show me something like that".i_monk
- i guess it would also depend how much you are charging, whether or not you are charging by the hourjetSkii
- 20 variations vs 1 or 2 means 10 times the price in my book. is that so bad?jetSkii
- Good luck with that invoice.i_monk

Well, I can see having the intelligence of the clients. I certainly understand that. But when the feedback one gets is entirely contradictory, well, what then?
- i_monk0
"I don't like those colours" — Does he need to? Is he the brand now?
"Couldn't you have done something with shadows?" — To what end?
"the only way to do it is black-on-white," "what we really want is something subtle, with some nice colors to it." — Which design school did they go to, and why did they hire you when they clearly have more experience in these matters?
- Miguex0
do you mean you have more that one person giving feedback and they are contradicting themselves?
- i_monk0
If you present the logo on its own without context, all they have to go on are surface impressions, and that's when you get "I don't like purple" and uselessly vague comments. Tell them why you chose purple (before you show them), make it a solid reason based on association with the colour, position in the market, etc etc etc, and "I don't like purple" becomes "I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about" to everyone else in the room.
- jetSkii0
feedback then should not be based on subjective thoughts and ideas, but rather than facts, which cannot contradict itself.

we always tell them to let it digest over a few days. take it in. and if they still don't like it, they have to explain WHY they don't like it. Then we address those points individually and see if they are valid.
Corporate drones do not like change, and they will shit on anything new as soon as they see it.

Oh, I wish I knew all this stuff a couple days ago!

Anyway, after putting my foot firmly down a couple of times, they're back into line behind my ideas. Just had to man up, I guess.

When it's actually approved and up on their web site, I will post it. I'm no Paul Rand, but it is looking pretty good.
