Interesting, if not confirming my bias.
"The more religious a person is, the less those sort of brand expressions seem to matter, according to new research reported in the journal Marketing Science."

Atheists and agnostics are among the highest-scoring groups on a new survey of religious knowledge.

I'm suspicious of any study that only measures something in terms of a single comparison.
What if they used age? Probably they would find that young people are less religious. Urban vs rural? Rural probably more religious right? Liberal vs conservative? etc
In other words, you'd probably find that old, rural, conservative people care much less about brands than young, urban liberals. They are probably also more religious. But is the religion the factor that makes them care less about brands, or is it just because they are a bunch of old people living on a farm somewhere?:)

"At many races, Christian fans hold early morning prayer services at roadside stands and in camp grounds. Some offer refreshments and religious literature to fellow fans. Some read the Bible in small groups and others listen to sermons. They are looking to spread the word and gather new members. The fellowship of the race environment offers a good place to do just that."

If that's true, then what's that thing dangling from that gold chain around a religious person's neck?
Looks like a logo to me.
