...a gradient mesh from an object in Illustrator (CS3). Is there any way to do it? I want to use the shape in a pathfinder operation but Illy says nay nay. I don't want to recreate the shape from scratch.
Checked the QBN filter and lynda.com with no luck. Any help would be much appreciated.

not sure what you're describing.
maybe group and flatten (merge) it?- Once you apply a gradient mesh to an object, it seems to be permanent.imakethepictures

You can't do it (at least that's what I understand).
That's why in most gradient mesh tutorials it tells you to copy your original on a separate layer.
Sorry.

That's what I was afraid of, Gucci. Live and learn, I suppose.
Thanks.
- Agreed. I was burned once before as well. Chin up. Good luck.Gucci

if your mesh isn't too complicated, you can lasso select the interior points and delete

^ I tried that, but Illy still sees it as a mesh or gradient object. It won't allow pathfinder ops. At least that's the result I'm getting.

Go to object>path>offset path.... Then when you get in here just offset it by 0 and it will give you a path. At least it used to in CS. See how you go.

^ Mother of all that is good and holy, that's awesome.
Great first post, mate. If I could see you I'd kiss you right on the mouth. Maybe.
Thanks!

It saved my bacon a few times when I used to work in packaging. Glad to help.
