any one know anything about them? what's difference between refractors, reflectors, dobsonians, cassegrains? what's the best thing to get?

Depends on what you want to do with them. If you're looking at the moon/neighbor changing get something cheap. If you want something to look at stars with get something mechanized that can plot. If you're getting into Astrophotography you'll want something heavy and well engineered that can do that and reorient based on micromovements for long exposures.

This is not the board you are looking for.
I've read that "you're better off" going for a really decent pair of binoculars before starting off with Astronomy, as it sets up the conditions for a watch without too major an expense - if you get irked by sitting in a damp field at 4am, best learn that lesson cheaply!
