You know what would be great, if the OP actually chimed back in with some more details on the specifics of the payment structure and what the outstanding fee is covering.

i did this once. shut down the site. suddenly, the client cared about it. aha. you got the power. :-)
i did leave a nasty note. so that was the end of it. hahah.
- I did this too. In a polite way i told the client that i will shut down the site and she magically replied 30mins later. That's because I had full control of the hosting and server and she knew sh*t about it.k_temp

What's the site? Is it in flash? Did you turn over the source files? I wouldn't hesitate to go up there and pull the work down. It's sensitive because it's his server, but you can take your work off of it.... that usually gets you paid in 24 hours.
But the bigger question is: why didn't you get 50% up front? Why didn't you keep it on your own dev server until the final was paid for launch? Do you have a signed agreement?

I am in the same situation here, client not paying the rest of the 50%
after saying the work was awesome and cool, this bitch is tricky, right before i was about to launch the web pages she said she was going to send the rest of the payment, but guess what i never received it... and now when i emailed her and asked when she was going to send the payment she said tommorow, but guess what still havent received it..?

just take down the images folder...His website will look like shit without images.

by the way. There's nothing unethical about you taking down the website due to the client not paying you. It's actually more unethical for the client not to pay. If anything put up a nice like a solid page with just the logo in the middle.

she works for a markeing firm and we signed a contract, not for this project but as a partnership agreement, should i wait a little longer or i could remove the images she had me purchase form istock??
btw.. this project is for one of her clients, 4 custom fb tabs

Is this person not even getting back to you, or are they just stalling the payment with excuses?
- brodster0
its only been two weeks, and this wednesday she said she was going to mail the payment but i havent received it yet, and i know it only takes one day to go through the mail

i have this problem a few times. there is no legal system i can use here so it's all about tactics!
if a client is being troublesome and they have their own hosting, making a random file with delete folder function in http://php.net/manual/en/functio… is useful and gives you piece of mind should it all go tits up.

In 2001, actually it was the morning of Sept 11, I had an appointment to meet with a client to collect on quite a few invoices she hadn't payed totaling 1950.00. I never made it in that morning obviously, but also was never able to collect that money to this day. One time I got her to start crying like a baby about the whole thing. She offered a full time position, more work, all sorts of options, but never the money. I recall waiting for her to straight up just offer sex. It was around then I heard she was notorious for this sort of thing. And she went out of business shortly after.
- have you contacted her recently? you should call her, tell her you want your money.mydo
- nah. I look at as a 2000$ lesson learned at this point.dopepope
- or sex. tell her you want the sex.dMullins
- you know, she was actually quite attractive. But she seemed beyond ugly the way she was disrespectful to me.dopepope

This is why you don't launch a site when you're not paid in full. My policy is the site goes live when I've got all my cash.
Also, this is why I put in a secret backdoor into every site in case they try and move the files or some crazy shit. I've never had to use it thankfully.
