Any bought a diamond engagement ring from amazon.com? They seem legit and affordable.
Here is one that I am looking at:
http://www.amazon.com/Certified-…Any experiences and/or comments about that ring?

SI2 is not a good grade.
- SI2 is fine. Its I1/I2/I3 etc you want to avoid. SV grade and up gets very expensive.ETM
- Also 'I' is near colorless and a good color grade.ETM
- okdoublespaced
- An 'I' in color (fairly good) being completely different to an 'I' in clarity (poor).ETM
- I thought the S was color. My bad. I did color grading for gemstones for many years. Kinda rusty.doublespaced
- No, there is an S color grade, but you're looking at canary diamonds at that point.ETM
- I know.doublespaced

i think i'd want to see it / hold it / look at it sparkle in person before purchasing.
- totally agree, spending that kind of cash, want to see it in person.Hombre_Lobo_2

i'd personally want to loupe it in person first.
- loupe? iPhone auto correct?ETM
- no, he wants to look at it through a loupe, in persondoublespaced
- Right, I forgot the technical term for the magnifying device, I thought he just meant 'look'.ETM

Take a trip to NY. I know a jeweler who is honest and good.
Saved about 30% off retails comparison. And he will tell you what to look for. Had a 90min session about diamonds beyond the 4 Cs
- < Good advice. Specs are one thing.. .but HOW the diamond is cut/shaped makes a huge difference in sparkle.ETM
- Yes. he showed me compatible with just a slight difference in cut, you could really tell.********
- Yup...an overly shallow or deep cut will trap light. They'll cut them shallow for more surface so it looks bigger, but will appear dull.ETM
- appear dull. See mall jewelery.ETM

guess im gonna have to find me a local jeweler to buy it from.

i wanted at least 1c ... but i guess i was looking at something around the 3k range.
- Honestly, you'll likely not get the greatest grade. A princess cut, like what you linked to, does not have much fire (sparkle).ETM
- BTW, fire is the their term for sparkle.ETM
- what has good fire then?datnatikid
- That depends on the diamond itself, but a round, cushion cut is likely to sparkle better,ETM
- The more and smaller facets, often the better sparkle. A princess is mainly flat.ETM
- BTW round and cushion are differenet cuts, my comma made it look like it wasn't.ETM

Just whatever you do, do not buy a ring with a diamond grade of I. The long term value is just not there. Better to go a bit smaller.

Just so you know, if you stick to a princess cut, look closely to ensure it's one stone. I have seen mall jewelry stores sell princess cut rings that were actually 4 smaller stones put together to look like one larger one.
- if it's GIA certified this won't be a problem. Good diamonds are certified.doublespaced
- Just making sure since his budget is a bit tight.ETM
