Found this:
Aronofsky saw Perfect Blue decades ago, and bought the rights of it, for a miserable 59000 dollars, just so that he could xerox the bathtub scene:And he did so again with Black Swan, the mirrors, the double, the overbearing mother figure, the duality, the repressed sexuality, etc, all of those are themes from Perfect Blue and he didn't interpret them or made reference, no, he copied them, period.
- You try and write an original screenplay.. Fucking impossible everything has pretty much been doneRamanisky2

- at least he paid!pango
- Good for Aronofsky, it's amazing when a director takes reference like that, he payed for it. We should ask the creators of Perfect Blue, I bet they're really happy their obscure underground art is now important in the pop culture.Ambushstudio

This is the best film I've seen all year. Great acting; intense, claustrophobic camera work; relentless editing. I haven't felt this tense in the theater since Children of Men, and that movie had explosions and chase scenes. You take a physical, empathetic journey with Natalie's character in this film. It is simply great.

I think anyone who truly feels passionate for their craft can empathize with Portman's character. I think she did a great job of taking us into the character's mind. The really subtle insecurities at play in her acting made me feel like I knew her and it was effortless. Great work on her part.
That being said, the film was pretty great. Lots of thought went into it. More than just one view could fully grasp and judge, for sure.

I've heard really bad things about this movie from people whose opinions I truly value when it comes to arts/music/movies—I was surprised to say the least.
It is on my list for things to do this week, along with Natalie Portman herself. I am looking forward to it.
