People won't enjoy horizontal scrolling because most mice don't automatically and easily allow the user to scroll to the right. But if the scrolling has to do with some kind of primary navigation, like looking through portfolio work, it's acceptable. As long as you're not using vertical scrolling at the same time. You can always add some kind of custom scrollbar with keyboard actions attached.

I hold Shift and use my mouse wheel, because I'm not an idiot and know how modern computers work.

build in some js so that when you scroll your mousewheel it scrolls left or right.

There's no excuse to have a side scrollbar unless its a conscious design decision like a lot of portfolio sites (but these usually use a custom scrollbar).

a) Hit the right arrow key hoping it has keyboard nav. (thinkingforaliving style)
b) Using a Macbook, swipe right on the touchpad.
c) Using a mouse I close that shit.
