I actually have a dead mac mini sitting next to a pile of drum machines in my cave. If it was moved or went missing I'd prob nerd spaz as well. Why? Because I'm down with WOPR, that's why.

Hmmm . . . perhaps the article hits a bit closer to home when you get to the line about futzing with Rubik's Cubes and that's when you realize you're currently holding a Rubik's Cube. It was a sad moment.

Also, just today, I got my hands on the complete set of original Akira graphic novels. Nerd level is defcon five on that purchase. And I can't read kanji.

Or wait . . . I'm not emphasizing the main point enough: The essay is about nerds as companions. Relationships with other flesh-and-blood people. And it's not a happy assessment.

The solution is to couple with another nerd -some of them are quite attractive!
Then you can have endless sterile conversations where both know that the information is meant to be forgotten, and meaningful ones when you flag them as such.
Anyway the article is spot on in quite a few things but I reckon that it follows the old school style of nerds. Nowadays being nerd is valuable, in demand and even fashionable. Certainly not the tennis teacher kind of appealing but I would say that we are doing a lot better than before internet...
