one of two things happened:
your boss was looking to replace you and posted your job (which you found) OR your boss was looking to expand the team and posted your job in order to find your counterpart to work WITH you.
if he was looking to replace you you have the upper hand and say you replied to let him know, you know, so lets talk.
if he was looking to add to the team (while keeping you) you have some esplaining to do lucy.

^ He doesn't owe his boss an explanation, really. It's not like he got caught reselling work as freelance or poaching clients. You *are* allowed to look for another job, and you don't even have to take it if they offer it.

I'll need to talk to my boss more about this one. I think. I'm kind of embarrassed about the whole thing.
We chatted for a second this morning. He told me that he was just seeing what was out there. I guess kinda like I was. He told me that he didn't want me going anywhere and mentioned a salary bump when I hit my anniversary next month.
I told him a little about why I was looking around, but we never really closed the conversation. Shits kinda weird still.
Why does this post read like a sappy high school relationship?
- think you are all good then. he'll prolly give you a pay bump. wouldnt worry too much about itBonSeff

at the same point. he said "he's just looking". that's pretty bad too.
i mean, hey...he might replace you, instead. how would you know.

you should have told him you knew it was him in the ad and that you caught him. now he is the one who should be embarrassed.

I think it should be illegal to fire or quietly "lay off" someone if the boss finds out they're looking for another job. Something along those lines happened to me a couple years ago. I was actually told that when things got busy again (we were really slow at the time), they needed someone who they could rely on as a loyal member of the team. I thought to myself "OK, so you expect your firm's goals to trump my own career goals and responsibilities as a husband/father? Wtf."

they had your position listed on Craigslist? What kind of cheap ass place do you work for?

BTW, I've said it before and I'll say it again: be careful what you post on here. Your boss might very well be embarrassed by this situation, and the design world is smaller than you think. If he/she finds your thread and their ego is damaged, they might fire you over that. It happened to me. I'm dead serious.
- especially with Google alerts hard to say what anyone is tracking on youphatwrx

Not sure how you didn't know it was your place of employment. Did you just fire off a salvo or resumes without even knowing who was receiving them? If that's the case, you reap what you sow.
- ^ pretty much. It was a reckless risk, but the tone of the ad sounded nothing like the folks I work for.aliastime2
