FUCK THAT CRAP, they'll never know and if they sent it to you and didn't call you by now, they'll never know. BS, keep the money. Come fucking tax time they'll never remember and think that they'd have paid you for two jobs. You'll never make any $, if you take no risks, just say, ohhhh I really didn't notice, I have a lot of projects., Pshhhh easy cash
- ORLY?randommail

Sends the file again and finished work.
- brodster0
they must really love the work.. keep it!
- arne2
they are testing your loyalty. old trick.
- maikel0
this full of shit.
if they are in arrears send them an email confirming that you got the 2 checks (and thanking them for that) also telling that they still owe you an extra 500.
If they say it was a mistake and you want to keep the client, you will have to return it, no biggie, but maybe on their accounts it will be easier for them to say 'well we've fucked him for a few months, let's let him have this check, as we can starve him on the next project for 2 more months'
don't try to be more christian that the pope. i wouldn't go to a restaurant if i cannot pay the bill, but 'design' seems to be the largest exception where everybody think they can fuck you up and you work for them because you truly like them.

What I wouold do:
Send an email. but a long one. a very long one that involves them digging up old documents and looking for other emails or something. Basically ask as many questions as possible.
That way, you've done the right thing but you're increasing your chances of geting lucky thanks to their incompetence and/or laziness

Mark Zuckerburg!

If the checks they sent are true duplicates, meaning that they even reference the same invoice number, then just applying it to the other job outstanding will not match up in their accounting system at their end. You'll still get a call at month or year end and you'll still look bad.
Just frickin' call them/email them, tell them what happened and see what they want to do.

- If they are an incorporated company, they'll have to have their year end done by a third party, and it will be found.ETM

take the money and run! LOL
Hookers and Cocaine. keep em coming!
- autoflavour1
send them the files again, called revision b..
if anyone asks, just say it was for that.
but yep, seriously, unless you are in the mood for getting a bad reputation, best be sending it back
that said, if it was 50k, i would be just moving state
- pango0
Email them.
They would appreciate your honesty and turn put to be a better long run for you.
- instrmntl2
coke and hookers! it'll be a great way to celebrate before going to jail.
- sofakingbanned0
call them and say they are $500 short of the $3,000 they already owe you. Cash that shit first though, if they give you jive and for some reason need you to send it back say you'll write them a check and it will be in the mail (wait a couple weeks)
see they owe you money anyway, so don't act like they sent you money for a job they already paid for, act like they didn't pay the full amount for the OTHER job.
did i just say the same thing twice? i need a nap.

Take it as an opportunity to show you're a stand-up, trustworthy person, and give them a call to let them know.
"Hey, I know you really appreciate my work, but I don't accept tips."
