You're contemplating risking your client relationship and all future credibility with anyone else; over $2500?
(Closer to $1250 after taxes. Although if you decided to keep the check, you might as well go full criminal.)
- $2500 is $1250 after tax?abettertomorrow
- hyperbole probably for him.randommail
- Uhmmm what? 30% of $2500 is ~$750. Do the math jack.chilamont
- I'm just used to NYC taxes, the highest in the country, along with being in the highest tax bracket.randommail

they owe him money!!! past due!!! lol
how hard is it to figure this out???

Did anyone mention just applying it to a retainer against future work? Clear it with them first, but it sounds like you do repeat business with them anyway.

What would Brett Bash do?
- I'm guessing he's never had a paying client before.betelgeuse
- I reckon he'd pull the same sort of dishonest, bone-headed move the OP seems to want to pull.Continuity
- He has. The few things in his portfolio which were awful were his work that he'd been paid to do.orrinward
- The ShihTzu parlour thing was his and the woman paid him.orrinward

buy lottery tickets then after you win tell them you think there has been a double payment. everyone wins unless you lose.

Take it as an opportunity to show you're a stand-up, trustworthy person, and give them a call to let them know.
"Hey, I know you really appreciate my work, but I don't accept tips."
- sofakingbanned0
call them and say they are $500 short of the $3,000 they already owe you. Cash that shit first though, if they give you jive and for some reason need you to send it back say you'll write them a check and it will be in the mail (wait a couple weeks)
see they owe you money anyway, so don't act like they sent you money for a job they already paid for, act like they didn't pay the full amount for the OTHER job.
did i just say the same thing twice? i need a nap.

Email them.
They would appreciate your honesty and turn put to be a better long run for you.

happened to me once, kept it for a while, cashed it. never noticed. if they were to say something i would blame on my book keeper, "really let me check with her."
- If I could get away with it, today, I might just cash the check.pinkfloyd

Send the excess to me to save for you and I'll give it back when this whole thing blows over.
- digdre0
you could also keep it,
but if they find out they take you in the butt, pr2
- scrap_paper0
Take it all and retire in fiji
- Josev0
You could send them a notice that they credit for use on future projects.
- digdre0
call them, tell them about the double check, tell them about the unpaid gig, ask what to do.
- CRISTIANFUKNGUZMAN0
THATS DOPE...ID GIVE IT BACK THOUGH.
- nthkl0
Something similar might have happened to me once, and i may have bought an audi with it, or not.
If they ask... just say the check went to your accountant, and you'll check on it. If you confirm the error, you can cut them a check. Boom.
