Looking for a cheap apt or room in New York for <$1300/month for three months.
Is there a place besides craigslist, you would recommend?

This is my buddy and we were just talking about this. He really has a finger on the pulse of the real estate market in NYC. Hit him up, he can prob point you in the right direction.

just look in bedstuy or clinton hill for a studio on CL - the commute isnt horrible. try classon g stop maybe clinton/washington c stop. been there for a few years. can find <1300

one can find an apartment in Jersey City or Harlem for under $1000 USD regardless of the term.
A commute from 116th st on the six train to spring st is no more than 30 minutes on most days. Go north to 138th st and it will be cheaper and take less time on the #3 train.
- jersey kids who work in nyc are complete idiots, they must pay both ny and nj state tax.epill
- this argument to live in nj for cheaper rent is beyond me..epill
- argument? SOme might not be able to pay the associated start up costs of an apt in the citymanonthestreet

for one person that's low, good luck
if you have/want/don't mind a roommate you could substantially reduce that
