Still needs a ton of work, and im pretty sure its completely NOT compatible with IE, and fonts wont load on firefox half the time, but other than all that....your thoughts?

Not good.

hey dan, yeah, my advice is to just keep at it. you have these projects under your belt, now move on to another one... practice, practice, practice!
in terms of structure, i know that krop does the whole side scroll thing as well, but i'm not a fan. it always feels laborious to me, especially having to drag it.
- yes my hand starts to hurt on mbp from all that draggingattentionspan

Here are some thoughts, hope it helps. Keep at it!
The dragging is confusing and unnecessary. if you feel you have to do that sideways scrolling, consider using arrow buttons or the arrow keys. It def needs some type of indicator that there is more content, though. I barely saw your "click and drag" instructions.
Also, try starting with an actual project image. The big black box with white text is just unattractive, and does nothing to enhance the display of the project.
Lots of weird layering issues on your about page. It's too wide. and your text is coming across as shouting because it's all caps, and the letter spacing is huuuge.
Lose the pics of you, too. More a personal preference than anything, but I just think it makes portfolio sites feel like a blog.

i agree dragging part a bit confusing.
Also scrolling down is confusing too.
I would simplify the way you are presenting your work

Overall its is pretty nice, I agree with the dragging/scrolling issues...

Work is solid - the images take way too long on my 3g to load.
I would recommend experimenting with some grid system
lots of here:
http://www.thegridsystem.org/look up flir if you want to use that blair thourgh out the site - would recommend adding a bit more letterspacing to the description

I'm not sure if I would write about being a chef. I think that would look bad.
- monospaced0
way too wide overall

i think your name should be more prominent; it looks really subdued in white. you are, after all, what you're trying to sell
i would move the click/drag instructions ABOVE the content. where it is now, you see your content first, get confused, THEN notice the instructions below. maybe if it were above you'd see it first. or put a scrollbar people are familiar with using at the bottom instead of tricky controls.
i think this is a great start

I think you're all right about the dragscroll...I got too locked into one idea and let it dictate the rest. Although I like that it forces a controlled interaction with the work, i think something more practical would ultimately be better.
I'll lose the part about the chef ... but ladies love that shit.
I'll lose the pics of me too ... ladies dont love that shit.
After far too many hours, I now HATE that font. definitely change that.
@Attentionspan - thanks for the compliments on the work!
thanks for the feedback. More is always appreciated. Im gonna absorb all this and dive back in. cheers!

In your name and title - I noticed "IA", does that stand for Information Architect? If so then that makes sense to have it there.
- supposed to stand for "I AM" like the url...ridg0026
- Mentioned it that since it threw me off. I had to look twice to see if u were a designer/IApixellette
- I used to work for a big firm named IA - Interior Architects.arthur

How the hell do I view past work? It's all just text descriptions with no click through.

^ Oh wait...my browser was too small.
Yeah, bad design.
You should have HORIZONTAL SCROLLBARS if you want people to scroll horizontally.
Disabling scrollbars tricks people (like me) with a 1000px wide browser or so into thinking that there's no content there.
Bad usability.

if you're just going to make a simple portfolio, get. c@rgo c0llective account. much easier.

just wondering ... did you do a comp in PS first so you could
tweak the design before you coded???- yea mocked it up in photoshop first, and then basically watched 4 hours of tutorials on how to build it piece by piece.ridg0026
- Ill give it another go. it was a really good learning excercise and is rewarding when you get stuff to work!ridg0026
- good for you - really!!!
I know how frustrating it can getalicetheblue

seems like a lot of work involved in seeing the work.
- doesnotexist0
i don't like having to break my wrist trying to look at your work.
- yea I kind of got locked into that concept and couldnt let it go. defintely go more traditional in round two.ridg0026

If you define a button space on your nav, you should make it clickable, not just the text. drag scroll is laborious and not necessary. lead with image not description.
If your looking to do more web work then continue banging on this. If you need a site to show your work, you might as well use something like c@rgo. But kudos for building it. I design sites for a living and 'phoned it in' by using a template for mine.
the café stuff is nice.
your site is 'va benne' not 'magnifico' keep at it.

I was fine with the dragging, personally. I wouldn't use this for any old website, but for a portfolio who really cares if it's unconventional. Overall though, I enjoyed the work and didn't notice the site itself, which is exactly what matters.
One thing that bugs me is the scrollbar. I would add some grey padding around that so it doesn't overlap the project images.
Too much LiveSurface used on the projects, IMO.
