First off, let me preface this by saying !@!@#$Q!@#$@%!@#$ @#$!@#$ %!@#$ CSS @#$@#$@@#$@ cross !@#$@#browser @#$@ FF #$! IE #@$.
Great, now with that out of the way and a quick disclaimer that I am not a front-end developer and have a new-found appreciation for those who put up with these fuck-ass standards that so many browsers seem to flip coins to determine their compliancy to, i present you with my question:
how do i create a simple button with a background-image where the padding for the container or margins around the button text make the buttons the same size across browsers? ie and ff just do. not. agree on these things.

Btw, right now I'm trying to just take facebooks buttons and tweak them, but i'm so suck at css that i can't even get them to be the same height by copying and pasting the damn code when i inspect their buttons in firebug.
for a point of reference, i'm talking about the captcha buttons that show in the popup when you choose a business and click 'get started':

Doctype problem, perhaps?

I haven't done any Facebook fbml, but does a CSS reset apply? That is usually the issue in these cases, different browser default values for certain elements. Unless you are still working with IE 6, then that is a whole different issue.

i found some better ones that i was able to 'skin' like i wanted them.
fb uses a label with a button nested inside. not sure what the benefit of that is? i found some code that was a pure anchor tag and it looks identical on ff or ie..
sheesh, what a pain that was!
