Aimed effect:
I am struggling, like a noob here. I have four stripes (from back to front, CMYK):
0-0-100-0
0-100-100-0
15-100-90-10
0-50-100-0they lay atop each other, all four of them crossing at some point and some crossing with each other at other points. I want them to retain their main color and blend just at crossing points. What I got until now was either lost of main color or no visible effect at all. Wtf?

What software?
Are you in CMYK or RGB mode? I know that you'd probably expect this to work in CMYK, tweaking the layer modes.. personally, I'd try bodging it in RGB mode, tweaking the layer modes.
CMYK mode doesn't mix very well with layer modes, in my experience.
