Been watching Portandia some, and it is pretty good. But seeing Carrie Brownstein in the sketches made me think of Sleater-Kinney, who I hadn't listened to for years. So I got the old CDs out and wow! They were awesome.
Just sayin.
For those who don't know them, if you want to hear just one track, try this:

I do love this band.

My friend Jasmine looks so much like Carrie Brownstein you might think they were related.

Great wee band, I loved them when I was about 14 - 16, stopped listening around the time of all hands on the bad one came out. GF still loves 'em though, really pisses her off that I saw them twice :)
Weiss is my favorite. Remember Quasi before they sucked? :-D

I saw them once. They were the warm-up at a Sonic Youth concert in Berkley.
Fucking horrible musicians. Ugly as stink, too. Boy was I glad when they were done and out of the way.
- Ill admit that their voices get irritating live but they all look pretty good next to Kim Gordonfooler
- Fooler, you have horrible taste in women.boobs
- yeah boobs kim looks like a dude
http://www.pollsb.co…fooler - hey, enough. boobs has no taste. and kim gordon is the same age as my mother (57)kingsteven
- the chicks in SK have to be in their 40s by now. Janet isn't to easy on the eyes but she is super cool

I was going through a serious Sleater-Kinney nostalgia kick in January while doing work with an institute in Germany. Kept blasting their Dig Me Out record in my office there; I don't think the sentiment translates into German. Must have been confusing for colleagues who entered the room to find little me coding and dancing in my seat along to riot grrl music. I tried to interview SK a few times for my old zine. It never worked out but their publicist did send me their records for free. Their shows were always excellent. Blonde Redhead opened for them a few times. Nice combo!
- Dig Me Out is my favorite as well. All great songs. Wish I had a chance to see them live.

I always felt like Le Tigre was just a big rip off of S-K, plus some synthesizers.

Yessss, I still haven't listened to Wild Flag, love Mary Timony though.
I could seriously rhyme off links right here, to all my favorite bands...ie. Timony's old drummer was Devon Ocampo from Medications/ Beauty Pill but was also in Slant 6 to with Christina Billotte who was in Quixotic with her sister Mira, who's band White Magic have had two of my favorite drummers, Jesse Lee (Gang Gang Dance/ the Present/ Rusty Santos) and Jim White (Dirty 3/ Cat Power/ Smog etc.) Following the links is why the riot-girl scene is so fucking good.
- Also, janet weiss via jicks via stephen malkmus to pavement is an easy one :-Dkingsteven
