I had an epson desktop a few years ago that came with a roll holder and a rear paper feed. Can't remember the model though.

what kind of print do you need doing? data? images? an abnormally long penis?
Also, how quick you want to print? dot matrix / thermal ain't too quick -and somehow noisy.
- thermal is ridiculously fast in the size I described, what kind are you talking about?BuddhaHat
- industrial thermal transfer printers (gerber) against regular chemical paper ticker printers.... the ticket ones(...)maikel
- de-colour very quick (a matter of months) and will colour dark if kept in a pocket or wallet. had one plugged into (...)maikel

Any piece of shit PC has the grunt to print, and would save you the headaches with driver compatibility. Definitely consider that as an alternative.

guess i'm in for a bit of a headache. thanks for the help!

Yea, had one client with an epson printer hooked up to an iMac, getting the drivers to work with the required software was a monumntal pain in the ass.

PS. Samsung and a few other companies also do thermal printers, but at lower price and quality.
Dot matrix printers are of course able to do continuous feed, but won't have the resolution you're looking for.
Xerox has continuous feed laser printers, but you would need to add at least one more digit to your budget.
Inkjet printers just wouldn't be economical in large volumes.

nice, thanks! have you ever worked with one/hooked it up to a mac?

OK then, you're only going to get black with thermal, and an industrial-grade device like the Epson TM-88IV is around 4" wide, and retails for around $300. These are receipt printers, so programmed correctly they can do a continuous feed.
Getting a printer wider than this is (ie. letter width) will either cost you a lot more.

it could be thermal, just needs to be within $300 or so.

Can it be thermal or do you need ink?

so i need a printer that has a can print continuously on a roll or really long sheet of paper. the width of the paper can be letter, or something smaller like a receipt roll. it needs to work with a mac.
any ideas/recommendations?
