my favorite is a switching of meanings between German and English.
In German, the word Gift translates to Poison, and the word Poison translates to Gift

English at it's best...

as far as brits and fags and gay...
it's not their word, don't let his smug elitism fool you. fag is originally meant as slow and drooping c 1520 from there it developed into loose piece. as far as fag/cigarette it wasn't until the late 1880/1890's that it referred to cigarettes and more specifically was originally referring to just the debris that was the smoked butt. it's simply british slang. nothing original.
which brings us to gay or gai which did originally mean merry/carefree and strangely still does in many english speaking nations, but it is originally french with documented use as early as the 1300's a jaunt 1500 km north of the borrowing brits who came together as great britain or britain in the early 1700's

I've got one for you all...
Why is it that the same word that describes the differences in our cultural backgrounds, is also used to describe a competition?
:: RACE ::
Now put that word together with Human, what you have perfectly describes the situation humanity faces in our current times:
:: THE HUMAN RACE ::
Its embedded in our language you'all... The language is but merely a reflection of the culture that creates it.
We're born into, we grow up with this programming embedded in the very tool we use to communicate and express ideas.

interesting that race in running a race is older than race in the human race.
