"It's not something that stops at the European waters," Mauldin says. "Just like the subprime crisis didn't stop in California...I'm worried this one has a lot of contagion and it'll affect the world."
As for the mechanism for that contagion, Mauldin lays out the following scenario in the event of a Greek default:
- Greece has to nationalize its banks.
- Greek citizens are forced to take deposits in drachmas, rather than euros.
- Greek consumers and businesses then default on all debts because of the resulting haircut, which he estimates at 50%.
- French and German banks are forced to take write-downs on their Greek exposure.
- The ECB is forced to take a write-down on its exposure to Greek debt.

what is the incentive for the larger populaces to obey reality? No crazy dramatic collapse will happen unless a large majority pushes for it. After all in a global economy if our dollar collpases it effects the policital careers of many ppl in other countries. no way we will we be the black sheep and audit fed or any other form of rational balance in econ scales. And other countries wouldnt allow it. There is no incentive. We all rely on the illusion. Of course cabel your posts are mroe about pushing silver to buy. Which seems logical with market forces. But in the end its just randomly gambling on peoples herd mentality. You probably own and want to see an increase to cash out. The reality is if a collapse is not aloud to happen currency by ruling gov is still key.what worth doe ssilver have if there isnt a dominant rule declaring what its worth. All currencies including gol and silver is subjkective to mass opinion of worth.
- buy silver and short it. its no different than a cdo as i see it. play the gamedeathboy

money is silver and gold and now you can officially use it to buy anything in utah. we are headed back to the gold standard within 5 years. if you didn't buy any silver on that last pullback you better start now.

if 5% of people have gold/siler bullion to buy good and the rest paper currency, who would have real dominant currency? People will take paper over real worth More customers with paper, not too mention more poeple vs minority of bullion owners. not too mention global trade values. we bought into an illusion and incetive is in keeping i tgoing as long as possible.

Deathboy, buying and shorting is like going short and long. So you are square. If you time it right, you can make a profit.
However, let's play the game proposed for a second.
You have let's say gold. Dollar goes to shit, and with it so will do a few other currencies. If the only thing you have is your gold, you will be force to sell to buy -let's say- food.
You will have to buy some $ (or any currency you like) to get the a -let's say- chicken. The chicken is a commodity (but unlike wheat, soybeans and cocoa it does not trade in any exchange) and as such it will not deprecate based on a currency. so you will spend the same amount of 'gold' to buy the same amount of 'chicken' - while in the process you will give plenty of middlemen a commission for converting gold-into-dollar-into-chicken.
Also, when you go through a devaluation the commodities in demand will raise more than the other. In the middle of an economy breakdown a lot more people will be interested in food than in gold, so 'chicken' will have an inflated value in comparison to gold.
result... the whole theory is craaaaaap!
