I'll get the ball rolling here, and since free is best if it's sufficiently up to date...

the case akrok is talking about:
Thermaltake V9 BlacX Edition Mid-Tower Case
http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Pr…was at newegg with a $20usd rebate (but donno if that's still going on)
i'm real happy with this solution and i love docking stations on top which support labtop, 3.5 drives and solid states. not to mention the handy usb 3 port (marked blue).
- <akrok
- Yeah, idk how i missed USB 2.0 there lol, that's a sweet case! looking for a motherboard atm ^5ZOOP
- That is innovative as hell! That would push the total build cost up, but damn, gorgeous and user friendly! hmmm...ZOOP
- might be worth it though.akrok
- in the long run, might be cheaper.akrok
- Easier to upgrade for sure! No tools! :)ZOOP

my recent build the bulk came from tigerdirect /newegg /amazon. you want to bulk your shipments as to not incur extra costs. (i have amazon prime so i try to use them since it costs me 3 bucks to ship next day)
anyway i got an extra $90 or so on rebates (which i totally take advantage of) i gotta thank Boz for his help on the recommendations.
my recent build

- I noticed you did leave the graphics card out of the list there lol, is a sweet one though! :DZOOP
- some people game others dont. this dosnt cover hdd,os or assembly. but i know how to do all that.so, $650 build isnt bad at all.plash

- If you want to make it look really crazy, compare it to Alienware lolZOOP
- autoflavour0
if reading this thread has taught us anything, i think we can all agree that Coke is better than Pepsi..
- ZOOP0
Interesting directions one could take, hard to beat $250 even if it's not the most robust system, it gets to the core of the idea... budget.
- are you taking a commission on this ad? or is it your own company?autoflavour
- This is actually quite a bit higher than my target, $250 can get and E-machine at clearance pre-built.ZOOP

Just buy a Mac already.. You know they are better
- thats all you got.. buy a mac? for no reason but to say it? give me a good reason why..plash
- Feel me, am i made out of money? Apple and budget can't be used in the same sentence lol :-PZOOP
- its not even about money, for me its about system performance & for that you gotta know to service these boxes.plash
- boxes. which inst a an apple user strong point.plash
- True, but if someone has an example of an Apple budget build, i'm game. :)ZOOP
- I worked building PC's for many years.. I run mac's for 10 years now, and they just work. I don't care so much what is going on inside as log as I can workautoflavour
- As long as I an work efficiently with minimum fucking around. Time is money, and the time wasted keeping PC clean an running .. Macs just make more senseautoflavour
- Running, for me Mac just makes more sense..autoflavour

Hey plash,
Is that build you posted on the first page a hackintosh? I am still intrigued with the idea of building my own "budget" computer, despite the fact that I do make enough to buy a new pre-built one (even a Mac), a topic which has ruffled some feathers here.
- *rim shot*ZOOP
- oh mono, you feather ruffler.. you can ruffle my feathers any day..autoflavour
