I have been introduce to Balsamiq to produce wireframes and I am not impressed. Everybody else seems to be. What am I missing? There's so much good stuff out there?
And yes, at the beginning I thought I was overreacting to Comic Sans, but it's not the case: I hated it before.
Thanks for your input, guys!
I've been using Balsamiq for a while now and I am one of the ones that love it for app/web mocks.
I guess it's just a bit Marmite really.
what's the point of this if you can build mockups with PS?
It's very quick for building them, and I basically use it as a way of preventing myself from overdesigning at the first step.
No typeface choices.
Not pixel perfect, but snap-fitting.
Big gallery of ready-built page components.
I used to mock in AI/PS, but after giving Balsamiq a go (also used Gliffy and GoMockingbird for a while) I found I prototyped quicker.
I also hand things over the my boss if he wants to make suggestions and it's very simply drag and drop stuff.
It's a designers tool that forces the client to think about layout e.t.c and not get caught up in the gloss, and also it's a tool that your client/boss can easily use to give their input.
At least with my boss and I, the days are gone where I would sit there with him over my shoulder asking me to move shit around and see where it would look best.
I now produce my best mocks, then he goes and does whatever he wants with it, shows his variations to me, and then we go with my original idea usually.
I have tried time and time again to use wireframe programs, and I always come back to my two basics: (1) PSD/Fireworks and (2) Omnigraffle.
All these other newfangled wireframe tools are always missing something critical. Stop trying to be different, and be better would be my advice to them all.
Adobe Air? No thanks. Can't be expected to work in a glorified Flash application.
Omnigraffle, Keynote and Fireworks are all decent for it.
Use to use Omnigraffle for wireframes but Axure is very good as you can build a working wireframe protoype.
Thanks all of you for your input. I reaaaaaally appreciate it!!!
