if you happen to be using an iPhone and on AT&T, (no matter what model) you will face problems eventually.
A little trick I learned from some tech blog is to turn off 3G or 4G and stay on EDGE, this way your internet will be slower but you instantly see an increase in bars and signal strenght.
Remember to turn it back on when you leave your house.
- it sucks for email, but then again a phone should be able to work as a phone first right? why are you paying $100 bucks a month if not?Miguex
- a month if it can't even do that?Miguex
- Also, call your service provider and let them know how much your reception sucks, and demand a discount on your next bill, I've done it beforeMiguex
- bill, I've done it before. If they charge you extras for every little shit they want, they should give you a break for crappy serviceMiguex

VoIP on your cell phone?

You might be able to get a Cell Phone Amplifier/Repeater of some form, I have a friend who has something like that from Verizon....
I had a land line once upon a time... I kept getting calls for some doctor, often in the middle of the night... I went to the basement of the old, old building.... and saw a wiring spaghetti like this... but in the dark....
took phone company techs 5 visits to fix it, as the bean counters gave them only 15 minute slots and it was a much larger problem than just a bandaid solution....

You might want to switch cell carriers.
Check the cnet map first to see if you're covered.http://reviews.cnet.com/cell-pho…
I switched to verizon without checking the map, then realized half of my block wasn't covered by verizon....so I had to switch back to ATT.

I had to switch from Sprint to ATT when I moved a few years ago. My sprint worked great in a 4 story apartment building but when I bought a 1 story house on a hill I had to go outside to make calls.
I just invited friends over with different plans until I found on that worked the best in my house and it just happened to be when ATT was the only iphone carrier so that was a double plus.

I just bundled my cable service with voIP. I have time warner. It's okay for cable but i have no complaints about my internet and phone. I prefer giving my clients one number now. I just turn on call forwarding when I leave the house, and turn off call forwarding and turn on answering service when I am not taking business calls.
