What does everyone use these days to convert simple bitmap line art into vector for best results?
Haven't done it for ages and I think I used Flash(!) once...

Stop making assunptions and fuck off back to whatever you do.

Illustrator and Pen tool for best results. Live Trace, Flash's trace bitmap, or Vector Magic but I don't think any if those options do it well enough...but might be good enough for your purposes...you'd likely have to redo some areas.

depending on how simple or easy it would be to recreate, i prefer the recreation over live tracing any day.
if it is a bit complex, i find it worth it in the long run to prepare, though sadly sometimes repair as it sounds like you'll be performing.
I only want to mention this as later on in the life of this file it will be required for many purposes; from something as small as a pencil to something as large as a billboard and larger.
Also, the fact that so many mediums can be used; from etching to printing to vinyl, the smoothest, truest, most efficient beziers from node to node are most practical in the long run.
I remember standing in line, seeing a farmers insurance shirt years ago that was screen printed on the back and had a vinyl cut applique on the front.
The art was obviously sourced from a scan of the logo. The back was of poor quality work as you could plainly see the wandering lines that should have been absolutely straight.
