I'd love to see the results of user testing for this one. Perhaps they went this way because customers were utilizing search? Feels clean but also feels like it has a lot of empty space.......no excitement from a shopper's perspective.

I'm guessing they hired an agency who specializes in mobile. "hey its all about mobile, people are using the web different, big fonts and blocky modular sites are the way to go...trust us we know."

i like some of it.
But it doesn't look like a store to me.

It kind of looks like it was designed for the ipad. ie: I betcha the homepage works pretty well when smeared around with a finger.

Anyone else getting the BBC redesign vibe from this?
The layout style is very modern and current, however it seems like the execution of the css has failed a bit. I'd be very interested to see the original mockups to see what level of polish it started out with. Props to the agency pulling it off though, selling a site like this to a such a large brand like target who is not known for innovation is not easy.
- wise words. Agree. I bet the original front-end guy is crying into his beer.

I think the copywriting draws too much attention to itself. Its trying hard to be more "casual" but on a large site like this, I'm not sure its the best approach. The homepage in particular is a pretty big mistake IMO.
- Overly familiar copy on a bigbox site feels like being hassled by an over-friendly assistant. I always thought that Target's...mikotondria3
- ..copy was perfecly pitched before, one of the best for that size and scope of retailer, actually.mikotondria3

- ..oh, the usual dribble. I wouldn't read it again.

Impressed someone managed to convince the client that the fold isn't so important anymore.

"made it easier to use" ha...not totally sold on that. but i like the big subheads. sure has a lot of things going on.

Looks like all of HUGE's other stuff.
That said, the homepage is alright. Grid is sort of funky, but the massive/huge imagery is cool (no pun intended.) All of the pages after the homepage are pretty lackluster though. Logo treatment is pretty fricking aggravating too (why just slice off ~5%?)

"Latest Stories"? Are you kidding me? No one cares about anything related to Target unless it's "how much cheaper do you sell XYZ for?"
This redesign seems off-base to me. As several people have said, it has HUGE (for the unwashed: http://www.hugeinc.com/) written all over it.
I am really really surprised at how terrible the grid work is. There are so many elements that are not systemic, and there does not seem to be any sort of styling governance for sub-links, etc.
The Google AdWords insertion is hilarious. I saw that Bloomberg.com and Morningstar.com had AdWords the other day, which blew my mind. I guess there are big pushes internally to monetize these sites in any way possible, not just serve up rich, customizable content.
