I just got a used Macbook from a friend.
It detects my wireless internet, and accepts the password, but then the internet doesn't work and I get "server not found" on Firefox.
My iMac is right next to it, and works perfectly fine.
Help!

from above:
1. Turn Air Port off.
2. Open Network Preferences
3. Uncheck remember networks this computer has joined.
4. Press Ok and then Apply.
5. Turn Airport back on and retype your password and click join.If this works then your password may be saved wrong in the Keychain Access application.
6. Go to the spotlight and search Keychain Access.
7. Under Passwords go to your network and double click on it.
8. Click show password
9. Type in your login password (what you use to login to your computer/account)
10. Click Always Allow
11. Change Password if incorrect.
12. Save changes. If that didn't work try creating a new account and see if you can login from there.
