Hey friends,
A friend asked me to move his wordpress site from the directory that he created, into the root directory of his site.
i followed the directions on:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Movin…...but I got an error message when I got to step 6 (after changing the URL settings in the WP Admin.) Now, looking at the database I can see that the domains are set correctly, but I've copied everything to the root directory (using Transmit) and I seem to be missing a lot of the files.
When I go to the site I get these error messages.
Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home3/observat/public_html/inde... on line 17
Warning: require(./wp-blog-header.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home3/observat/public_html/inde... on line 17
Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required './wp-blog-header.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/u... in /home3/observat/public_html/inde... on line 17
So, shit is missing, yes? Any ideas? The database seems to be in tact, as far as I can tell.
HELP ME, OH WISE ONES OF QBN! I AM AT YOUR MERCY!

give this a read...
http://codex.wordpress.org/Movin…but check the errors to see if you are actually missing those files or... wp is confused about where things are now because the site is still referencing the sub directory... occasionally i've had to open the sql dump in a text editor and do a find replace for probs like this before reimporting the sl dump back into a fresh wp install on a new server... read the link above though.
- hahaha duh, i now see the url above is the same one i just recommended, whoopsprophetone
- prophetone0
also you may have to double check all the permissions on your folders sitting in the root... make sure they're all set up properly using transmit.

Thanks, but I've read thru that link over and over again and it doesn't have the info I need.
I have an sql dump of the old database. Do you have a link with instructions on re-importing an sql dump into a new install? Because that I think I can do, but I can't find any instructions with the ol' Google.
- there's an official wp db reimport pluginprophetone
- Nice, found this: http://codex.wordpre…nb

The thing is, I am actually missing a ton of files on the server (and on my hard drive.) It's as though half the files just weren't there to begin with. But they must have been, because the blog was working fine before I came along.

i would do a fresh install of wp in the root using a new empty db, make sure it's working fine and then import the old sql dump into it.

Cool, I'll try.

also before you import the old content, make sure the right theme is installed exactly as it was before, all the same settings and also any special theme options, etc. then it's basically a matter of importing the pages/comments data.
- use TOOLS > IMPORT when you're ready...
http://codex.wordpre…prophetone - you choose the Wordpress option and open your WP sql dump file...prophetone
- use TOOLS > IMPORT when you're ready...

Hmm, now when I load the new URL, I get a blank page.
- prophetone0
in my opinion it's always safer and usually faster even though you wouldn't think it, to start with a fresh install and do things step by step. i find the quick solutions lead down a path of monkeying around with stuff and takes longer.
- That's what I did. I installed a fresh install, and am currently trying to import the sql.nb
- Hmm. Can't use Tools > Import on my .sql file. Tried with PHPmyadmin, and getting a blank page.nb
- Thanks again for the help. Still can't figure it out....nb
- you need to export all the crap from the old site using the wp export in the dashboard, then importprophetone
- it into the new site that's sittimg there all ready to go except for the articles and pages dataprophetone
- again using the tools, import option. don't import a sql file from a phpmyadmin dump...prophetone
- nb0
Well, I think I've got everything going, but.... I've got a blank page. However, I can see now that WP reverted to the default TwentyTen theme.
SOOOO I'm hoping if I have my buddy re-install the theme, everything will work again. FINGERS CROSSED.
- some themes require the home page to be a page named Home and then it's set in the general settings as wellprophetone
- but if the theme is set up correctly and you import your articles and pages it'll prob appearprophetone
- prophetone0
it should in theory. the theme should be mirrored in the new wp install and make sure things like permalinks and all the fields in the general settings make sense or are exactly the same as the old live site's.
- prophetone0
you need to manually upload all the items from the old uploads folder into the new empty one. or i recall an option to automatically grab all the photos in the import settings... the wp does it for you.
- Hahaha. I don't have them. Hopefully my friend backed them up!nb
- yeah that'd be a problem if there somehow toast now, lolprophetone
- popfodders0
I was going to tell you to beware of the media, this is a common mistake and if he didn't back them up, they are gone. Has happened to me before.
- prophetone0
well nb, did it all work out?
- Frosty_spl0
I had this problem too, and I did the find and replace of the XML exported file, and it worked for me.
