isn't the demise of boxing the premise of the new action flick entitled real steel? coming to a theatre near you?

boxing will cease to exist soon. It's turning into a reality show.

Ortíz won 2 million for the fight and took a huge slice of popularity unlike the many booed millions of Mayweather.
I'm a big fan of Mayweather Jr., but I lost a lot of respect for him last saturday. The points for the head strike where deducted, Ortíz was apologizing, and Mayweather took an unsportsmanlike advantage of the event.
People who enjoy good boxing will undertsand why I disagree with the result and with the overall "surprising" tone of the contest reviews.

- ortiz headbutt looked intentional see how he lunges into his head.74LEO
- It was obviously intentional. That's the reason he was apologizing, ffsmaquito

I think Ortiz had enough hand shakes etc while they were deducting the point.
Its different when your in the ring. Protect yourself at ALL TIMES. Agree a little bit with johnnyp. Any publicity for boxing at this point is good publicity. They are struggling to compete with MMA now.

The best part of the fight was the interview with Larry Merchant from HBO afterwards. Mayweather lost his cool and got in Merchant's face. Merchant responded by saying "If I was 50 years younger I'd kick your ass!"
Good bit of bravado from the old timer. He admitted he wouldn't be able to kick Mayweather's ass no matter what age, but he would have given it a go. I love boxing. This match depressed me. It's all a farce so Mayweather won't have to fight Pacquiao. He's scared.
- I heard this yesterday. I wish I could find it again because it was INCREDIBLE!

The kid Ortiz took a dive. He got frustrated and realized he was going to lose, saw a way out and took it. He's taken bigger shots than that and got up before and Floyd doesn't have that kind of knockout power. boxing has become a sad joke. Feel bad for the people who paid to see this.

Boxing is a strange sport. The fact that Mayweather acted as promoter and even paid Ortiz 2 mill to fight, and that is normal in boxing? Anywhere else thats a conflict of interest.
Mayweather made up to a possible 40 mill, (maybe not because it ended so early) Ortiz collected his bank, and thats that.
- boxing in inherently corrupt, so no, not really an issueflashbender

I want to see Mayweather vs. Larry Merchant!
Mayweather is totally unlikeable...

He didn't hit him hard enough for a knock out but Ortiz just laid there for the count. I don't get it.
- I dunno man. He kind of stunned him, immediately followed by getting his facial pushed in.dMullins
- it was a dive, both punches only grazed him.Dodecahedron

Mayweather is a complete knob.

HBO crushed all links with an iron fist.

I can't tell if Mayweather is a punk or a genius. When I hear things like "WWF Shit"... damn right. WWF created a business on understanding how to create persona's and sell fights that were planned.
The more Mayweather is hated, the more people will PAY to see him knocked out. Same a Brock Lesner. As far as "did anyone pay for this", yeah, a ton of people. Just because we didn't, don't base your views on that. Creating a persona that people will pay for... that's money!

No Respect for Mayweather!
