I have a linkedin page, and connections, but it doesn't seem to do anything for me.
I never look at it myself.
Any success stories? I feel like it's all a big waste of time.

there was a blog post on a popular freelance blog a month ago asking people about linked in. A lot of people said that they have complete profiles, lots of connections, even beh4nce portfolio plugin and the majority have received absolutely nothing from it. Maybe a couple of full-time job offers but nothing as far as freelance work.
I finished mine a few months ago. It's funny how I signed up initially a year ago and have had a full profile for the past 5 months and have had a whopping 3 profile views.
not only that but anything I tried to do on linked in (very simple things like privacy settings) I had to spend a few minutes googling around and I wasn't the only one doing that.
the major deal breaker is I can't be invisible to certain people (like my current boss). I can change a privacy setting to be hide my profile for everyone and that is it.
I'm going to delete the whole thing soon...
- and these people have had profiles for the past 3+ years

dude, it's like anything else. you might connect with someone or some gig based upon luck of the draw. it can't hurt that's for sure

My girlfriend has had a few interviews from it, granted they're agencies she'd never work at, but she seems to get a few things every couple of months. I've gotten nowt, but haven't put much effort in.

Even if it doesn't act as a great job resource, people do find LinkedIn profiles when they Google search your ass, and for that reason it's good to have one.

Works great for me (Got contacted by a bunch of major agencies through there (MRM, DraftFCB, Rapp, Leo Burnett, CK, etc) and a cpl direct clients (Bloomberg,Wyeth,Discovery Channel and Yahoo)...
I also put a lot of work into it (667 connections, mainly ad agency folks...producers, ae's, cd's, ad's, exec's, management, etc). Connect with folks, follow up all the time, or just drops notes to say hi. Always trying to connect with folks that get in contact with me or folks I've worked with.
Good for people who do their own thing. Probably not as beneficial for someone who works FT.

I thought it was pointless, but the agency I'm at now (and leaving on Thursday actually, after 2 years) originally found me on linked in.
So.. I guess it works.

its the modern CV, utterly essential in the agency world.
