if you just got into it you should go to cigars international and order one of their sample packs. and get yourself a humidor from there or somewhere else otherwise those suckers will dry up. i like rocky patels and gloria cubanas but everyone prefers different smokes. acids are definitely good, ghurkas... it's endless man, there are so many good ones but you gotta get a humidor and all the proper gear. nothin worse than a dried up cigar. i really like la gloria cubanas man.

So far i've just been buying them as i smoke them so they don't dry out. That or putting them in baggies with a moist paper towel piece.
I'll check out the gloria cubanas. Thanks!

i like to empty them and fill it with weed.

dude, you definitely don't want to buy acids or rocky patels and fill them with weed. that's what phillies blunts are for!!!!!!!!!!!! seriously, go to cigarsinternational.com and check out their sampler packs so you can try different kinds. don't go to thompson cigar because they will mail you junk mail every month and call you trying to get you to sign up for shit and monthly plans.
- phillies are for slackers.. use DePalma Dutchmasterse-pill

So.... I'm dating a really big cigar fan. I'd like to get him something nice for xmas but he's got so much gear and so many cases of cigars already. Anyone have any ideas on a nice gift for someone like this?

Macanudos and Gurkhas are my cigars of choice.

Ha, I made a guitar out of a Macanudos box a couple years ago.
I'll have to try one.

Rather then brands, I would suggest you sample different styles of cigars. Start with the wrapper, lighter shades / leaf (like a connecticut) tend to be a bit more mellow, easygoing... and a darker shade wrapper / leaf (like a robusto) have more complexity and "thump". Once you find a style you like, experiment with different brands in that style.
Also, like good whiskey or scotch distiller, try a boutique cigar if you come across them (hard to find, very low production numbers, but some of my favs have been stumbled upon thusly).

i tried smoking cigars but i can't get past the whole "not inhaling" thing. i feel like i'm wasting my time if i'm not inhaling anything
- I find it easier to manage my nicotine high with cigars than i do with cigarettes. Nicotine fucks me up!flyingnowhere

What UKV said. To the single word.
I'm a novice myself. But to add a slight bit to what he/she perfectly said: you can "find your brand" by plowing through the hundreds of brands out there, and it's easy to go ahead and do so, but to really appreciate the differences between them it has helped me (at least) starting by the noname brands: the bigger makers have their taste-marks that makes the basics harder to distinguish.
And unlike, say, a bottle of scotch it's much cheaper to go through a bundle. Sizes, builds, so forth...

Oh, and get a cheap humidor or make one yourself. Lots of DIY guides out there.

If you're lucky enough to be around one of these stores...
My favorite has been the cohiba darks

I must admit, even though I smoked for 15 years - solidly, and hard, I never got the hang of cigars. When I did try a little one I'd inhale it, which everyone said not to do, but it didn't bother me. Just like, sucking the smoke in then blowing straight out again didn't do anything for me at all. Inhaling a bit - not all of it, just a bit, gave regular smoking satisfaction. Is that like the 'open secret' of cigar smoking ? - to inhale a bit, but everyone agreeing to say you don't ?
- it's about the flavour of the smoke, inhaling it hurts and is counterproductive********
