"Here is the point , about myself and my co-thinkers. We do not rely solely on science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason. We may differ on many things, but what we respect is free inquiry, openmindedness, and the pursuit of ideas for their own sake."
-HitchHe was one of my great heroes. Rest in peace.
- apparently, he also supported invading Iraq, is that heroic?panacea
- His thoughts on the 2nd Iraq war are very clear and required reading for anyone who holds an opinion on the events.mikotondria3

Will be interesting to see how this thread compares to the Steve Jobs thread.

One of his most endearing qualities was that he despised Hillary Clinton. IMO, no man is perfect, but his thoughts on Hillary were.

"God is dead." - Hitchens
"Hitchens is dead." - GodI keeeed, I keeeed, I joke, I joke!!

Panacea- I never said I agreed with everything he said/thought. It's how he approached the world I'm fond of. I'll quote him to explain:
“The essence of the independent mind lies not in what it thinks, but in how it thinks.”

@ BRNK: "Crying over spilled milk?" That's how you refer to honoring a man who's died? You're an asshole."
You misunderstood me. By "not crying over spilled milk," I was responding to mikotondria3, who asked me not to do "my thing" (whatever that is). What I meant is that I wasn't going to lament his adherence to atheism until the bitter end, since he's dead and there's no going back. In fact, I do actually honor his passing in my own way. I can't deny he was extremely gifted. I wish he'd come to different conclusions in the end, for his own sake. But he didn't, and I find that sad. Just like I'm sure you find my faith to be sad. And that's OK.
- "God's hater on earth" = the exact opposite of what I was getting at.gramme
- your intent is not as important as your offense to others. maybe someday you'll understand you don't come firstidiots
- idiots: This has absolutely nothing to do with me.gramme
- For the record, I'm actually curious what he might be thinking right now. But my query was rhetorical.gramme
- I don't expect any insight into that question from QBN. ;)gramme
- Insight's the wrong word. Maybe agreement? Anyway.gramme

ah yeh yeh, I'll rush to gramme's side here - of all the people here, if I misunderstood something he said, or it looked as if it was assholey in any way, then I'd rererered it until I realised I was wrong; Mr gramme has excellent manners and is never distateful like that. I feel badly for writing the part about not 'doing your thing', which was my glib way of asking him not to propose any Theism regarding Christopher's death. Which of course, he did subsquently didn't, nor would I expect it. Sorry, Mr S. You retain your excellent standing and unarrogance with regard to matters of faith, I'm genuinely upset by The Hitch's departure, sorry to have embroiled you thusly.
- I totally understand. I'd be upset too, if someone I really admired just passed.gramme
