Finally,
I'm over hyped for this one, looks like they did everything i was expecting regarding a modern MPC.
I'was about to buy a shitty MPD32, fuck that,i'll wait for the beast.

new shit isn't always better.

Akrok: I'm using a 2000xl for almost 10 years now.
After all those years i felt like i need some updates on the 2000xl.
Faster processing, non destructive editing, usb connections, upgraded fuse from the old mpc, getting midi controllers,etc.....but still have the MPC workflow and pads feeling.
The MDP serie suck balls.
To me, it looks like an up-to-date version of classical MPC's.

Looks pretty awesome as a standalone device and nice comeback from Akai who've been nudged out of the market lately by all the software and controller combo's.
Folk that are looking for controllers for ableton etc will stick to the MPD32 etc
I think the market for this MPC is the original MPC crowd, the diehards who have stuck by their MPCs and held off moving onto computer based platforms.
I wonder if it'll hurt NI's Maschine ?

It puts the Skrillex in AraabMuzik

i'm interested in the studio model. sort of hoping it will be a slimmer version of this, with the display and same software. would make it direct competition with maschine, we'll see...
- prophetone0
i'm still planning to be buried with my beloved 60 no matter what happens
- 23kon0
interested in seeing the studio version too.
I heard a mention of this from a musician/producer who's been working with Akai on these models and he's been really excited whilst keeping real hush.def could be a maschine killer, esp if their ipad2 app is decent and not like NI's SHIIIIIIIITE ipad offering.
- ApeRobot0
Still curious about the price, maschine got the lowest price.
Mpc are expensive.- these appear to be controller interfces only so i assume they'll be priced accordingly, cheapishprophetone

id love a maschine...
- 23kon0
I've debated whether to get maschine or not over the past year but it does have a lot of limitations and i'm much better keeping with ableton live and ipad controllers like touchosc/lemur/griid
If Akai have done this new MPC right and they've got the software spot-on then it may be temptation!
I do love the build of my MPD32

Remember this, in the end. It all comes down to how it's used!
This new mpc will cost about 3 grand, I would be looking to older models now that this one is out, since they will drop in price.

I'm looking for something more versatile then a mpc2000xl regarding live performance.
We have already to much gear to carry and i would like to get rid of the mpc2k for the live shows.
I was thinking of an MPD32 combined with the APC40 using will marshall DJ templates.
Thing is that i'm not comfortable with the MPD32,still didn't tried it with the thicker pads.
In the end, hardware is way more stable then software.

ApeRobot, bear in mind that the MPD32 and APC40 together would be a HEFTY lump to carry about! plus you've still got your laptop and soundcard too!
For a portable setup you could use an MPD18

if you want akai pads to hit.But for controlling Ableton Live you could use an iPad with Griid/Touchable/Lemur to launch clips/change vol/tweak knobs
Would be a much more compact setup ;)

With Native Instruments having a major sale on Maschine and Mikro at the moment i've been tempted to grab one. But Maschine has its drawbacks and have been very slow at updates and feature requests. It's also a crap sequencer too for finishing songs. One major gripe is that you can't record automation from external controllers.
The other day I saw these videos for the Akai Renaissance and it's made me really want one. Talk about perfection! Much easier workflow than Maschine and a great looking unit with lots of knobs for hands-on controls!

It seems like it's also got a built-in audio interface too so all you'd need to gig with is the unit and laptop.
I'd initially though the unit might be too big to lug around, but if it means you dont need to lug around audio interface too then that's great!

^ looks cool, but no audio tracks? would be a big loss coming from a JJOS mpc1k.

So is this basically Akai's response to Maschine? It looks very similar in concept, but with an MPC workflow and 3 times as much $.
- prophetone0
i don't know man. i have had a love affair with mpcs forever and i feel like they need to be an all-in-one. maybe i'm just old. the maschine is proving to be just enough for me for what it is and i love it as well.

i had a mpc2000xl for about 2 years.. ended up selling it once my computer was capable enough to run protools (we are talking 2001 or so)
it was definitely a killer machine.. but at the same time, was so fucking finicky to deal with..
- i do miss the interface tho.. once all the shit was loaded, it was funautoflavour
