Lil' BitchAs you move up, the less designing and more directing you do although a lot of CD/ECD's I know still end up micro-managing and end up doing design stuff as well.

The ACD supports the Chief Creative Officer in managing the overall creative vision, process and creative team
- sabatizer0
In most places, ACD manages jobs and deals directly with clients - works well on their own, but still has some oversight from CD and ECD.
- Means you have 1 guy hovering and not 35 milling around with cans of fuckitallbrandon_phillip

ACD = the middlest of middle men
- Frosty_spl0
ACD owns the project. From design to dealing with moronic developers.

Then you've got the "Seagull Creative Director".
He's the one that flies in to the studio every now and then when he feels like it, makes a lot of noise, craps on everything people are working on, and then leaves.

One tier lower than "Creative Director" on the org chart.
- In actually reading that description is turns out I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. Carry on.melq
- in a traditional org chart, you're exactly correct, however, it differs depending on the environment.bulletfactory

ACD reports to the CD or ECD.

good to know
- clearThoughts0
would have never guessed that, it somehow sounds higher than a CD to me
- d_rek0
Just wait until you meet the Executive Creative Director. Then you'll really get confused.

In my experience the path for many jobs follows a formula...
for example, in higher ed: assistant professor, associate professor, professor. This is the case with a number of positions as well.
- clearThoughts0
@d_rek yeah, what does 'Executive' Creative Director mean? That's higher than the CD right?
- yes - in my office it went CD to Senior CD to ECDbulletfactory
- panacea0
It stands for "SHIT", there's no fucking such thing in the subjective "creative" world.
- pinkfloyd0
It's between a Creative Director and a Art Director, and very similar to a Senior Art Director.
- d_rek0
It boils down to this:
The more words you put in your title the higher the salary you can demand but has absolutely no bearing on experience, talent level, skillset, or ability to do anything anyone else can do.
