Doing what you believe in against all odds.
I think we help people, appear to great, holy or even just confident about something for selfish reasons sometimes.for example, helping an old lady because it makes you feel better. climbing a mountain because everything thinks it's an awesome thing to do.
Real inner strength would be to make a change in your life to do something for no reward. Maybe just because you feel your life is on the wrong path, the right path would be harder and shit, but right. maybe.
- Every motivation can be framed in a selfish way. Strength is sometimes a hindrance, when wisdom is needed most.mikotondria3

I dunno. In daily life I think of the bloke who you'd see in the tube and although obviously looks tired, will step up and give a seat to an elder.
Clearly there is not a lot of physical strength involved, as much as will power to leave a comfortable situation for no apparent gain.
Filmed correctly you can make a great ad out of it : P

thanks so far, all in line with what I've been thinking.
There are obvious people like Nelson Mandella, the Dalai Lama etc. but they're too spiritual/specific.
This almost needs to be how inner strength applies to our everyday lives.
I like the ideas of willpower and independence – just not 'going along with the crowd'
