Hi,
Just wondering if any of your lovely people can help me out please. My Indesign CS3 seems to have taken on a mind of its own.
Tircky to explain bu there goes -
When I make a text box, normally, the text would be formatted to sit in the top left corner. When I click the cursor on it, it would normally let me select the text at any point within a word.At the moment, the text seems to be displaced further down the text box. When I try to select any of the text the cursor sits above where the text is.... I am so stuck as to how to get it back to normal. Thi shas only started happening over the last few days and its driving me mad!!!
If anyone can help, I'd reeaaaaallly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention that this is only happening in InDesign. In Illustrator, and photoshop etc, the font boxes are fine.

Close all of your documents but keep ID open.
Hit command + B and you'll get an object dialog box. Make sure the inset spacing is set to zero. That's most likely what it is.Closing all your documents and making changes to prefs (ie default font size, etc) makes the prefs universal to all new documents.

have you accidentally added baseline shift?
- Good thinking. That could also be it. That would explain the cursor issue.Gucci
- crossed my mind as wellmonospaced

Thanks guys.
The baseline thing is whatI originally thought. In the menus on the right, baseline is 0. Is there another way I could have done this through the preferences perhaps?
I'll have a look at the object dialogue box and see how that goes though. It is quite literally driving me mad.
The only thing that makes no sense is that in old documents, I'm not getting this same problem...- you probably just clicked the "align to baseline" buttonmonospaced

Maybe you're snapping to a baseline grid.
- polly_pocket0
its baffling me. wouldn't the baseline grid thing affect the text box location though as apposed to just the text inside.
It almost looks as though there is a default baseline shift on the text in any new boxes no matter what font. . .- no, only affects the text inside, not the box locationmonospaced
- polly_pocket0
nope, the one next to it is though.. thanks so much for your help.
- did that solve it?monospaced
- nope, still the samepolly_pocket

just checked the inset spacing too. Its all set to 0.
In that dialogue box there is a section for baseline options... would that be any use to look at?
- polly_pocket0
Grr. I just tried Baseline options, changing the 'first baseline' 'Offset' to 'fixed'.
Although the text moves up to the top left of the text box, the cursor still stays above the text!
Just don't understand. Are there some settings for the cursor perhaps?
Would it help uninstalling the InDesign do you think?
- polly_pocket0
so alternatively, does anyone know of any online Indesign help I could access. Tried to get in touch with Adobe but was on hold for 35 mins... with no answer.

reset all your inDesign prefs.
I wouldn't want to go through the hassle of uninstalling/reinstalling- hi, would you be able to advise how to do this please? thanks in advancepolly_pocket

In Baseline Options, Offset should be "Ascent," "Cap Height," or "X-Height" depending on your prefs. Maybe you have it set to Leading? Uncheck "Use Custom Baseline Grid." If this doesn't work, you have a legit glitch and you might have to start trashing preferences and/or reinstall.

Boo, awe thanks for your help anyway. I think a reinstall might be in order. Having never done that before, does it take long?
- polly_pocket0
how would you reset your inDesign Prefs, sorry if its really obvious.
- if on a Mac, it's a whole folder in the Preferences folder in the machine's Librarymonospaced
- I did it manually then the programme created new preferences. Thanks so much for your help. I would have been still banging my head against a brick wall without you guys. Fingers crossed it behaves.
