Oh holy LOL... I just got a logo from a friend that I help out with occasional design work. Not sure what he needs, we're going to talk tomorrow, but it has to have been made by someone following that hipster logo guide to a T. It has all the hallmarks:
1. Jagged circular badge background.
2. Inwardly notched horizontal banner.
3. The EXACT ESTd text.
4. The little X arrows with pointed tips and feathered ends.
5. Slanted text that reads "The Original" like a kid's baseball jersey font.Totally amazed. This is gonna be a fun conversation.

hipster today means conformity because they all look the same.

I just can't wait for the guy to tell me who made it. I have a suspicion it's a mutual friend, but I don't think he has the PS skills to assemble a logo.

EST 2014 tells you it's vintage.

Does everyone who makes this kind of logo just copy a hang tag from Urban Outfitters or something?
What is all this "heritage" design based on?

^
I'd be interested to know that, and see where that style first existed and how it became the de-facto heritage-esque format.
I just looked at http://yourlogoisnothardcore.tum… (posted above) for the first time. Oh man... a sea of sameness. Sea of lameness.

i think most of it is simply the natural tendency to like symmetry. the wes anderson effect.

To continue generating amusement for you: talked to my friend, and in so many words told him "it has way too many trendy elements in it." He said "that's good, right?" Uggghhhh...
Asked him if he wanted me to try another version or if the person who created it (a friend of a friend of ours) was going to do a new version of it. His answer? "No, he doesn't have any interest in working on it more." Ah, thus the quickly thrown together, trendy garbage he received as an initial effort.
Adding amusement to the whole thing, he made it in Corel Draw.
- That is actually sad, but hey! Good thing you look at the bright side of things :)Maaku
