I think a few people here on QBN work in art direction for the film industry / studios, and I am curious where you guys think the bar is at for title design and movie posters, etc. Starting to research this as a medium, and I am curious who's out there killing it? Oh yah, thanks for sharing.

key art is dead... that being said the larger studios pay ridiculous amounts for lots of revisions. so if you enjoy working 15 to 18 hours a day on a project that has been vended out to 3 to 4 other agencies in town. On the plus side you will get the lofty tile of Art Director straight out of college and you can tell your parents you work in hollywood.
- how is key art dead?scarabin
- Marketing execs killed the industry years ago. We now work in a focus group driven industry where no one takes risks.jonny_quest_lives

Apologies for my earlier post it was a tad negative... To get back to your original question as to where the bar is at.
The bigger agencies are often the worst creatively speaking. They might as well be extensions of the studios marketing departments. It's a shame as I am sure there are some talented people at them all.

Who's killing it? Depends on your definition of killing it. Scarabin's list is comprised of highly profitable agencies but I wouldn't say they are breaking new ground creatively speaking. Ignition has a really good interactive component.

Damn, posted this on Friday before heading out of town for the weekend... there are some good links to look at this morning. Thanks you guys.
I remember seeing a dude who reinterpreted classic movies with new posters in really clean, graphic element styles (and thereby removing the PSD glitter), anyone remember seeing some of that stuff?
