Leave the office. Go for a run. Read a book. Go see a movie. I find diversions like that are always super helpful.

Instead of 'what', maybe try 'why'?

There's a famous story about how Frank LLoyd Wright procrastinated for months when designing Fallingwater and banged out the designs 2 hours before Kaufmann showed up to review them.

I always try drawing all the cliches first. As many as I can think of. From there I try to improve the better ones or try to go for a totally different approach.....or smoke a joint and have fun with it, cheers!

I'm also doing a logo for a bike shop.
Already have three versions to present, I'm just building up the pdf for the presentation.I have a version with chains, other with the fork and one with nothing bike related but in itself has to do with cycling.
Took me a while, not two days for sure.

As others here have said - you have been given a gif - Bikes are wonderfully visual. If you cannot design a good logo for a bike shop you shouldn't be in the business. What is hard is designing a logo for software companies that deal with transactions and databases. All abstract - no cool visuals like gears and sprockets.
(I would like to strongly state that this gif vomiting trend has to stop. It is very hard to type a coment when you are seeing a loop or three of that.)

1.start making one, cliches and all
2.Roll up a fatty boom batty
3.Carry on
4.Wake up tomorrow, look at it, realise its mostly crap, but there;s that one idea that's really cool, you just need to NOT incorporate the other 20 ideas as well.

well I was honest about what was going on... I showed him what I had (not much) and then I had a few rough sketches of ideas I liked but would take a while. Overall he was psyched on one of the concepts and I got a much better feel of what he was looking for. So I bought myself more time and I have a pretty good direction to go...
Also, trust me I know that bikes are pretty damn easy branding and I always thought it could be such a fun project but it certainly is not as easy as I had I imagined. You see good looking bike stuff all the time... projects that looked fun/easy but I'd say it's like seeing any other good design– looks effortless until you're trying it yourself.
- Simple is hard. I always see the massive efforts that have gone into simple things now.mikotondria3

That's when you call the client, tell them you're not 100% happy with what you have to present and want to refine it further, and postpone the meeting.
