www or no www?

which one do you usually go for? I mean the fact that it says .com shows clearly that it is a url, and usually looks better, but still you see people using the www at the beginning most of the time. And somehow with the www it just seems more right.
Thoughts?

i only remove it for sites that actually work without the www.

i like no www

I think the web's been around long enough to forego the www prefix.. but like indian_pole points out, it's good to make sure that actually works!

no www
If the site doesn't work without the www then the web admin is incompetent
- !00++ This drives me crazy...mstocks
- he's not asking if the web admin is competent or not, he wants to know how to advertise the siteindian_pole

This is kind of what worries me about this great anything-goes TLD sell off — I can't help but feel it'll muddy the immediacy of domain recognition again.

I go without whenever possible – but check first, because some IT depts don't bother to make the non-www resolve. I've had to tell two national clients that in the past.

i always leave the www out because the .com is sufficient. doesn't need 2 call-outs saying its a URL.

If use nginx web server, put this on your "server" block:
if ($host != domain.com) {
rewrite (.*) http://domain.com$1 permanent;
}

sometimes the "www" can visually help balance the ".com" pending on layout - usually centered.

i still spell out HTTP COLON SLASH SLASH..

actually, you know what fucking irks me the most.. is when people abbreviate the W's..
like
dub dub dub
or Double U's
or W3..
I used to work with a guy that would say W3 everytime.. it was so fucking annoying
- maybe he was extremely efficient - 3 syllables compared to 9bulletfactory

This is why we should just drop it. If people can't be fucking bothered to say it why bother displaying it anymore.

redirect it,
need to be careful with subdomains, still have clients who you provide the url
qa.yourdomain.com still put it in the browser as
www.qa.yourdomain.com
