Hey everybody, maybe if we ban drugs, overdoses and drug related deaths would go down!
OH.... wait... they are banned, and people still die from them. Derp. Ban guns and take a wild guess at what would happen, the import business would balloon.

Basically there is no fixing this problem. People are going to continue to be crazy, that's the problem. Ban guns and people will still get them. Most murders done in inner cities are not done with registered weapons. Some people are fucking nuts. Welcome to reality, and if these people want to kill a bunch of people, some fucking laws arent going to stop that. Get real.

So let's hand them out one for everyone at halloween then.
I mean...fuck. Do we even have to have a discussion about how great guns are after entire families are destroyed today? Yes. Let's fucking protect the sanctity of these cold metal lead-flinging contraptions that keep us safe, warm and provide for our families. Especially today. Let's stand up for them.

Don't get me wrong...the narrative could just as easily be about mental health. But God. To immediately spring to the defence of guns seems otherworldly to me.

@CygnusZero4 so what's the solution you propose then?
- CanHasQBN0
Hey Cyg. You are demented. But too demented to realized that you are demented.
- ernexbcn0
Also what does drugs have to do with this?
- monkeyshine0
Yes, we need to have a discussion about how we deal with mental health but we also need to have a discussion about gun violence in our culture. The broad brush stroke you apply to resist even the discussion smacks of NRA kool-aid. Pro gun people always jump to the extreme that they're rights will be taking away and the liberals are trying to ban all guns...it's a way to shut down the conversation before it can even begin. I'm sorry but you're an idiot if you can't see that there's a problem.
- Bingo. Mental health. That is the REAL problem. Guns arent going anywhere. End of story. Laws are irrelevant. They stop nothing.CygnusZero4
- nothing.CygnusZero4
- "laws stop nothing" HAHAHAHA. Wow. I mean... wow. It's just... amazing.CanHasQBN
- laws discourage for sure, but how many people do you see speeding down the highway still. It is against the law right?BabySnakes

Buncha fucking idiots on this site. Ok, let's do it your way. Let's ban guns, please tell me right now what you think the result of that would be.
- mass stabbings...BabySnakes
- Ban knives. That should fix that.CygnusZero4
- Thanks for that seeping generalization....see_thru

@CygnusZero4. The drug analogy doesn't work. You can't grow guns in your backyard.
- This guy doesnt realize how massive the drug import business is.CygnusZero4
- can you smuggle 300 millies of guns up your ass???hotroddy

Humans are Dicks!

You are an idiot to think this is about guys.
You are an idiot to think that this is about mental health. In this doc "Murder By Proxy: How America Went Postal" mentally stables employees sympathise with the gunners ON THE RECORD saying "i know why he did it" and "i was that close to do it too."
It's about the dehumanization of a person in modern times.

As a Father (15 month old) and an owner of multiple firearms I don't honestly think the answer is less guns.
The real answer is educating people about firearm safety and violence. The reality of our sad world is that guns are going to get into the hands who have no business handling them. Also, If you believe we live in a utopia where there are no crazy people and they don't have access to firearms then i feel sorry for you.
I think that part of the problem starts with education people about firearms safety and gun violence in our culture. Educate your child on how to use and intelligently defend themselves with a firearm, the effects of gun violence, and etc.
While this is by no means a definitive answer I think it's imperative we start to discourse about firearms intelligently with the understanding that firearms are pervasive and easily obtained in western cultures (particularly America). You can't just say "ban all firearms" or "ban all ammo" or whatever... because I truly believe it's not going to solve the problem.

No shit it's about mental health. No shit that's the root problem.
That is PRECISELY why guns need to be controlled. Why on Earth would you make it easy for everyone to get guns??
"Derrrrrrpp. They be takin' away my rights! Dawggonnit."
- Gucci0
Here's a thought. If someone is deemed to be mentally unstable: take away or suspend their gun use. Fair? That covers the mental health angle AND the anti-gun angle.
- It isn't that simple...people just do things sometimes, no warning.BabySnakes

Seriously, what the fuck is going on with young men these days that they are mowing down humans and recklessly destroying families?
In the Oregon shooting, one of the victims was a 54-year-old hospice worker. Her career was comforting the dying and their families during one of the most wrenching periods of their lives. She was, to be blunt, making the world better.
So what is possessing these young men to murder people like that?
Colorado—Just wanted to kill as many people as possible. Oregon—Just wanted to kill as many people as possible. Today—Who knows? But I genuinely cannot understand what is going on in the heads of 20-something men to cause them to do these things.
Thoughts?
