Police are doing a marvelous job of making themselves look like uneducated thugs to run scared from. Good job America.

Automatic weapons, multiple shooters, a "mass casualty event" unfolding in Las Vegas currently. The videos are horrifying.

That most definitely was automatic gunfire... it would seem there is more than one attack going on... should probably move this to the terror attack thread... :(
11:47 PM PT -- At least 2 people are dead and at least 24 others are injured so far, according to reports.
12:02 AM PT -- Las Vegas Police say one suspect is down, while noting the investigation is still active ... and warning everyone to stay off the Vegas strip.
12:13 AM PT -- Another casino in Vegas, New York New York, was reportedly also under fire during the initial attack.

not terrorism = white shooter.
- I wonder if Trump will even mention it?monoboy
- I am hearing it was a white shooter - has it been confirmed by police?fadein11
- "I'm calling for a complete shut-down on 60+ white males from entering the United States until we can get to the bottom of this". These are some Bad dudes.monoboy
- the word "terrorism" is so associated with Islamists these days, if the news say terror attack in LA, people will auto think its Islamists related, soBennn
- thanks Bennnmonospaced
- the word "shooting" is so associated with terrorism these days. Terrorism used to be a mean towards a political purpose, but now any lune is a terrorist.Peter
- This thread was originally about shootings, like at schools and such. It's terrorism when there's an ideology behind it, and a victim group is somewhat defined.monospaced
- White = Mentally Ill
Brown = Terrorist
One is evil and malicious, the other is sympathetic.sofakingback - Because Jim was a nice guy, he was a football fan, loved his country and served in the armed forces. He was a poor poor soul.sofakingback
- my biggest problem with anything any "official" has stated today. NOT ONE has mentioned "terrorist".mapleT

Trump tweets "My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!"
.
"My warmest condolences..."?
- just heard a newsreader audibly cringe as she read it out. How is it possible to get it that wrong?Fax_Benson
- Right, so it's not just me? My head's bunged up with a cold and I did wonder whether perhaps it was just me that was broken.detritus
- Trump literally is at his golf course as he tweets this********
- pleasant grieving over the bad thing. Amen.Fax_Benson
- I hate the guy as much as anyone, but I believe he is genuinely offering his deepest sympathies. He just writes & thinks like the fucking idiot that he is.monospaced
- er, yeah.Fax_Benson
- Giving too much credit monospaced. If the pattern holds, he will find a way to make it all about himself.yuekit
- God bless you? Lol this is what you say when someone sneezes. Fucking take action and do somethiing._niko
- I'm only saying that he's got to be a monster if he isn't genuinely upset by this. I think he is, even if he is a narcissistic idiot and complete asshole.monospaced
- I genuinely doubt he gives a fuck beyond what impact it might have on him personally. He's a reptile, he literally doesn't care about anyone else.detritus
- You really think he cares? What has he done to make you think he has compassion for the suffering of others?sofakingback
- He's literally treating the people of PR like a bunch of animals, not even that. Dogs get better treatment and care in this country.sofakingback
- I think he does because of his outrage over killings during his campaign, and because I like to believe that he isn't a psychopath, I guess.monospaced

Remind me again what a practical non-murderous use of an automatic or semi-automatic rifle is again?
Because the machine-gun like spatter of carnage that's audible in PB's video up there sounds to me just a touch excessive...
- Are you allowed to keep a rocket launcher in your car in America? What's the limit to fire power?Hayzilla
- Most in the US aren't able to even step near the weapon he was using... tho in Vegas there are shops that advertise 'shoot a real machine gun' on the strip.PonyBoy
- Don't even bother bringing it up...it's like a religion for Americans. They will just flat out deny the possibility that having millions of guns on the streetsyuekit
- has anything to do with the prevalence of shooting deaths. 11,000 killed so far this year. https://i.imgur.com/…yuekit
- "Nevada law does not require firearms owners to have licences, register their weapons, or limits the number of firearms an individual posses.formed
- Automatic assault weapons and machine guns are also legal in the state as long as they are registered and are possessed in adherence to federal law, NRA"formed
- "Such weapons were previously prohibited under the 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban which expired in 2004.formed
- Several lawmakers have attempted to renew the ban, coming closest, but still failing, after the Newtown school shooting in 2012."formed
- It's typical divided American garbage. The NRA is a plague, yet enjoys insane support.formed
- let's hope some sense comes from this... no licenses for fucking automatic weapons... what is wrong with these people?fadein11
- https://www.thetrace…Gnash
- ^ you can get auto-like fire with gadgets that are legalGnash
- I was under the impression you don't need gadgets do you? You can get automatic weapons over the counter in nevada no?fadein11
- yes they are legal as confirmed by formed. It's just insane... why the fuck is this shit legal. There is no argument for automatic weapons being legal.fadein11
- speed limit is 75, why do cars go faster? I don't deny guns can dangerous, it takes a person to do so. personal responsibility over blanket legislationimbecile
- nah... that arguments just doesn't cut it. As Det said, automatic rifles have no other purpose than killing people.fadein11
- Personal responsibility and yet...do you think you will get more deaths with zero guns in your country or with 300 million guns (actual number estimated in theyuekit
- U.S.)? This is not rocket science...it's completely ridiculous to pretend availability of weapons has nothing to do with it.yuekit
- to get a drivers license you need training, pass an exam, registration and insurance. also requires updating documentation.dirtydesign
- larger vehicles, specialty vehicles or a motorcycle you need additional training, exam, etc.dirtydesign
- laws, speed, consumption, etc all regulated by the government. so yeh, maybe we should try this model.dirtydesign
- they have the right to bear arms in the event that the government becomes corrupt and they need to raise an army to overthrow the government.trooperbill

Regarding this latest massacre in Las Vegas, I invite the pro-gun advocates whose defense is usually, "I bet if a civilian with a gun had been there, it would have been different" or "we need guns to defend ourselves", tell me how that helped here. It was a country music festival, so you know there were people carrying. Having grown up a hunter and in the South, I'm well acquainted with guns, but I agree fully with that has been said above, there is absolutely no reason for any non-military, non-law enforcement person to own or be able to carry a fully automatic, military rifle. It's time for Congress to pull itself off of the NRA teat and use some common sense for once in their lives.
- I don't think armed civilians would have have changed the outcome...but at the same time I don't think ppl willing to commit these horrible acts careGM278
- whether or not it's legal to posses these kinds of weapons. The ppl looking to hurt others will get their hands on them one way or another.GM278
- There's a serious mental health care issue that continues to be ignored as ppl fight over pro or anti gun.GM278
- absolutely right. these weapons aren't called assault rifles for nothing. they're designed to attack, not defend.hans_glib
- Being pro-gun doesn't give you some magic shield from every violent attack. Home invasions, carjackings you have some protection but this is just horrific.GM278
- I'm speaking as someone who conceal carries a firearm. (see the open carry thread).GM278
- ISIS again. Terrorist group calls Stephen Paddock 'a soldier of the Islamic State'sureshot
- http://www.independe…sureshot
- The argument that "they would find them anyway, so why bother" drives me crazy ... it's full on giving up. At least TRY to make them harder to get, at least?monospaced
- I mean, ffs, at least start the process. It can't and won't be overnight change, but if we make moves in the right direction it can be altered, over time.monospaced
- And I can agree with the current state of mental health care being a huge problem as well, GM. It also needs to be addressed along-side this.....kirshar12
- Mono, you misunderstand. There was no "so why bother" merely an argument that armed civilians wouldn't have changed the outcome. Getting these types of firearmsGM278
- out of ppl's hands NEEDS to happen. But I still believe that has to happen hand in hand with improving mental healthcare.GM278
- @GM278, apologies, but it seemed like that's precisely what you were saying, so I appreciate that you agree that starting to remove guns is a good start.monospaced
- Far too often I hear that argument, and have read it in this thread several times, and it only sounds more idiotic every time I hear it, year after year.monospaced
- Like I said, I own and carry. Do I own automatic, military grade stuff? HELL NO! I don't believe civilians should be anywhere near them.GM278
- I mean I'm pro-gun but ppl that try to make the argument that they need automatic weapons for home security are bat shit insane.GM278
- Things are that bad in Austin?monospaced
- Austin has it's moments like anywhere else.GM278
- Yeah. It also has a fuck load of gun stores and a gun culture, unlike anywhere else (mostly). :/monospaced
- That is unfortunately very true. I agree it needs to be MUCH harder to purchase a firearm. Not to go completely off topic of kirshar12's initial question.GM278
- Aren't fully automatic weapons illegal?dbloc
- yes, but not all of them, and they're not really difficult or expensive to fashion them from semi-automaticsmonospaced
- pr2-4
I worked once with a guy who was in Iraq during the heat of things. He was the gunner on top of the Humvee with a huge 50 cal machine gun. He said that every time they would have to cross an intersection they would just point the gun 90 deg to the direction of their travel and fire without stopping (or looking) until the vehicle crossed this intersection. He wasn't looking - just like this guy wasn't looking - at what his bullets hit but simply spraying fire into an abstract void, just like this guy into equally abstract mass of people.
We forget how atrocities committed by individuals in the service of the state shape our communal psyche. It doesn't even matter if this guy went to the army (and was traumatized by his experience) or no as we all, by being part of this system, have our hidden traumas. I bet any half-baked psychologist and any half-talented sociologist could tell you and the confused massed this truth only if the TV/media only gave them the moment to explain things, but that would go against the easy to consume narrative. And so each time a tragedy like this happens, we sit like stupid chickens in their coop laying eggs, confused about why this stuff happens.
And maybe this confusion indeed is healthy from perspective of mental health, as maybe with that knowledge we would be surprised why stuff like this doesn't happen more often...
- and please don't start with it's because of guns as easy access to guns is only a tip of the iceberg.pr2
- because access to fully automatic high caliber assault rifles have nothing to do with this at all.moldero
- Remind me again how a psychopath can quickly and efficiently kill 50 people and injure hundreds without access to armaments or such?detritus
- Also not sure what your desensitised war narrative has to do with what's happened here - that shit's been with us forever.
War is not a new thing.detritus - >>Remind me again
Killed 86
https://en.wikipedia…Peter - ok, but in relation to what pr2 is saying here, wherein you can do it remotely without directly facing your victims?detritus
- I mean, murder by knife's beocme popular in the EU with our terrorist chums, but even that requires you come close and personal to your victims.detritus
- As I'm sure you're aware from your BB gun gaming, there's a remoteness to gun usage that doesn't really exist elsehow. Especially from a 32nd floor....detritus
- >>ok, but in
>>without directly facing
Hold on let me move the goalposts a bitPeter - pretty insensitive of you pr2moldero
- >> I'm sure you're aware from your BB gun gaming
Also let me get personal right away, because discussing is hard.
Man you're pathetic.Peter - I actually didn't Peter, and how did I know you'd spout that? Predictable. Given I was talking to Pr2, it should've been clear what I my context was.detritus
- Crikey, you thought that was some personal attack? You're quite sensitive, aren't you?detritus
- My apologies if I don't knw WTF it's called - but I've posted vids from 'whatever it is' here beforehand, non-sardonically, so your smarting is all your own.detritus
- Nice to know what you think of me though!detritus
- reading this back, i'm perplexed as to why you thought I was attacking you, other than it's clear that your intent was to jab at me, so.. pathetic?detritus
- "AIRSOFT"!
I found that out by searching google for 'bb gun gaming'.detritus - and as expected it turned into "easy answers" conversation about guns...pr2
- "this is my opinion about it. you can't have your own" ~pr2moldero
- opinions have hierarchy too. if you start with "GUNS!" then i know yours don't count for much.pr2
- you don't like if the topic is about a "shooting" and someone mentions "guns"?
you are fuckin stupid.moldero - I'll have to remember your incredibly biased view next time I watch one of your documentaries Patryk, maybe you can get a gig at Fox or with Alex Jonesmoldero
