Its been a while since I have used Wordpress for this and have no choice on platform.
Was wondering what people recommend these days?
Its actually just a product catalogue so cart/payment options will be removed.
I need the ability to display products by brand, and by type.
Thanks in advance.

do you want
1.something out-of-the-box pretty nice, with only a little tweek-a-bility, but looking pretty good to begin with...
or
2. something really customizable, and build-to-your-liking but may take more time to tweek, and you may have to learn more to be comfortable with it...
- out of the box really - just reskinnable as in colours typefaces and logo etc.fadein11

@vaxorcist - its pretty vital it has the abilty to separate products by brands and type of products, But I guess that can be done just with categories anyway.
Would be nice to see some examples of both though if you have some handy.
Many thanks!

To be more specific the site is for a furniture retailer but they just want their product catalogue online (no payment/cart options).
The key feature they want is a ranges page - a lot of their items are grouped into ranges as well as categories.
I cannot find an off the shelf theme that does this - I found one that had brands as a category (which could easily double as ranges) but I need a page that I can add specifically listing the range names with an image of a group shot of items.
All the themes I have found just list the products when you click on a brand - I need a page before that showing the different ranges (or brands if easier)...
Any ideas?

I use Shopp for e-commerce, which is quite nice. If you're not having any purchasing though, then you can do it with custom post types. Create a post type 'products', create taxonomies for it for 'ranges' and 'brand', and used Advanced Custom Fields to add what other fields you need. Of course, you'll need to modify your theme to display all that, but it's not overly difficult. It's pretty much the setup I did for http://favouritecycles.com.au/bi…
