"Don't see many print designers handwriting postscript code to create a brochure.
WYSIWYG is not dead in all other creative disciplines so why web?
Because geeks end up in web and they like tinkering with the latest library etc.
WYSIWYG will save days of coding on animation jobs..."Web pages are interpreted code... print and video are not.

true... I cant count the hours I used to waste debugging actionscript from when i picked up a 90% done project" done by a timeline-phobic flash-coder-head who dissapeared at the last minute....
- fucken ey, yes. that last 10% took 80% of the time.mikotondria3
- you think this will not be the case with JS, and HTML5? Javascript is a DISASTER.monolith

WYSIWYG in Flash was good for simple animations. But pretty much useless when it came to full fledged applications, which is pretty much what Flash came to be used for.
I heard even many at Adobe used Flash Develop at some point.
- yep..that's why a ton of enterprise apps are built on Flex.. Because it sucks.monolith
- Is there such thing as an "enterprise" app that doesn't suck?animatedgif
- Totally different issue monolith. Talking about coding vs WYSIWYG tools.ukit2
- Well I mentioned it because you mentioned Flash Develop. Flash Builder is better now.monolith
- Btw, Flash is a great UI tool.. when paired with Flash Builder it's a great combo. By itself it's not good for applications.monolith

the company/individual who makes an app that does this well will be v.rich.

There may be a good program for this someday but its probably better to focus on the coding side of things. Even with Flash, most people moved away from the IDE.

the fact that WYSIWIGS seem to fail on so many browsers is a barrier to entry to the web profession has against print designers trying to take our clients.....
Anyone who actually figures out how to make a really good WYSIWIG may end up defeated by the next browser feature set, but who knows.... then again, I never thought that web designers / coders would be actually in favor of the incompatible browser shit they have to deal with all the time, it IS what keeps them getting paychecks rather than everyones "uncle bob" doing it in a WYSIWIG...
- partly true - i'm talking about animation stuff that is more about creativity than code... a lot of us creativesfadein11
- get bored keeping up with js libraries and browser issues and just want to be creative.fadein11
- actually you are making no sense. anyone can learn a DTP program but that doesn't make them a good designerfadein11
- yes.... saying Uncle Bob can do it is too mean.... I admit it... I've listened to account people say that though.. ugh!vaxorcist

web pages are interpreted code... so is postscript...
but postscript doesn't have a million versions and different interpreters....
yes, I'd be happy to have a WYSIWIG for things like moving stuff around the screen... but due to different screen sizes, this could be tweeky too....
.....but the amount of code-slinging needlessly done due to browser differences is excessive... yes, code-heads make $$ but doing all this tweek-shit is not very gratifying....

A program that lets you animate and lay out a web page. Like Dreamweaver or Flash that lays it out.
