I ended up picking it up, did anyone else?
If so, I was wondering because of the always on internet thing and that we can take advantage of its network / server option and build a private QBN region. There are 3 regions with 16 cities and 4 great works. We could develop one of these if enough people are interested, or something smaller to suit enough interested.
I really like how one city can serve another and that there interaction is expected / intended. It'd be nice to do some planning, share screenshots, and plan our region on the city level before ever breaking ground.
Some cities will be able to mine ore, others dig for oil, etc. up to processing plants that then redistribute manufactured goods from raw or recycled materials shipped from other facilities. It'd be cool to see a thriving ecosystem operating on the region level while we each contribute on the city level.
The game creates a lot of "what ifs", like I wonder if you could create a wind farm of one of the cities to feed the others. With just commercial zoning, the employees working in that region would then shop or go home. (or according to a game tip, stay at a hotel... that would likely pop up in the commercial zone if there was economic prosperity.)
So if anyone's interested, let's swap tips and see what we can create.

Amazon yanks SimCity after it receives an average of 1-star after 800+ reviews:

@i_monk
I agree, for the most part. I also wish the city size was larger. I know they want to make the game playable on 6-yr-old computers, but those of us with newer machines should have the option to play larger territories.
Also, where the fuck is "God" mode? Since the first version one has been able to terraform the terrain, build mountains, create rivers and coasts and canyons, but now that seems entirely gone. That was, for me and millions of others, a HUGE part of the game!
- Our computers could handle terrain editing 18 years ago, so I don't know what the hell they're thinking.i_monk
- exactly!monospaced
- Glad to see you on board, mono!

The only way I'll ever play this game is if someone cracks it so single player mode doesn't need internet access.
- if they don't update to include this within 3 months, I might not ever buy itmonospaced

I can still pop in my snes SimCity any time and it works flawlessly... 20 years after release. There is very huge doubts they'll still be running servers for this game in 20 years when no one even buys it anymore and they no longer make money off it.
- mantrakid0
can honestly say I was on the fence but the more points and comments i read about the always online it just looks weaker and weaker - a glorified facebook game, where you dont really get what you need to get out of the game unless you're connecting with neighboring cities and sharing resources and shit. fuck that. huge props to the graphics dept, but the philosophy and management of the game itself are hugely flawed.

When is the mac version out?

Sorry to bang on about this. but people need to get it into their heads that they shouldn't have to tolerate this kind of bullshit on a product they've just paid good money for. There's no real need for it and it won't actually solve anyting for them.
Accept this now - and what crap do you think they'll dream up to shit on your game-time experience in future?
There's a big reason people flock to unlocked, DRM-free and indie games, and it's only going to get bigger.

Fuck you, EA, fuck you.
