Unionize?
Starting a union is difficult, but it seems necessary in this case.

I feel their pain, but they'll have to change more than the movie industry. This is the essence of capitalism.

a documentary all about this issue, worth a watch. at 21:40 they talk about the whole getting cut off during the Oscars speech thing, Ang Lee not thanking them etc.
I think its important to note that that whole situation has brought a lot of attention to the problem from people not directly interested in the VFX industry.
- my avatar was always green screen green though. but it will remain in solidarity!lodef

In case you didn't know that - the 1% runs the 99%. That's how it's always been through the centuries - and that's how it will a;ways be. Become the 1% - this is the only solution.

A knowledgeable and thorough discussion of this issue from two HEAVYWEIGHTS of VFX ...
'The state of the VFX Industry and where do we go from here: Presentation by Scott Ross and Scott Squires.'
They talk about RnH, under biding, subsidies, potential to create a trade association for VFX, revenue sharing etc.

All this wouldn't have ever happened if his brother was still alive!!

I think people are mad at him in particular since he could have used the opportunity to voice the issue and raise awareness. Rather than soapboxing the bad conditions vfx workers are going thru to help him and others get high accolades, Ang remained silent while the winning vfx sups get their mics cut.
At least Robert Downey Jr attempted to stand up for the artists who depicted Iron Man for a majority of the screen time before Sam Jackson shut him down

I hate it when businesses cry poor...seriously, either work your contracts out at the start of the project, or don't do get involved. It's quite simple. If you're being undercut...please take a ticket and join the queue.
Perhaps the industry could get together worldwide and work some shit out.

I imagine its must like the ad world. The bigger the company, the less they have to pay for work. Take Coke or Nike. They pay terribly. The reason is that if agency A doesn't accept for a small amount, there's thousands of other agencies that will take that budget in a second. This story really is larger than just the FX industry.

I can't find anything that says how R&H actually got screwed, other than being priced-out by overseas competition/tax incentives. Was there lack of payment or something on one of these big movies?
