Why is their site still in Flash? It seems like it could be done pretty easily with HTML.
Do any other companies use only Flash these days?
- instrmntl0
It's being redone at the moment. They also have like 15 different platforms to contend with.

Flash is such a pesky nuisance these days. Force quitting all my browsers, when i hit cancelled for the 5th time it decided to say, "Fuck You!, I'm installing the Flash plug-in whether you like it or not!"
- please, there's nothing wrong with Flash, it's just propaganda from Apple who killed itmonospaced

Oh, fredddddd ...

HBO is probably trying to use slow, heavy over-scripted flash in order to get everyone to stop multi-tasking and quit all those other browser windows ... and watch their website like it's the only thing worth watching....
na... they just didn't watch their RAM requirements, they just developed to all sorts of requests and screenshots and assumed nothing about the rest of the user's environment.... happens a lot...

^ They're releasing quite the opposite actually. And Huge built the existing flash player.
- instrmntl0
And it's total shit, hence the rebuild. There's a bunch of hacks at Huge.

HBO Go is probably coming to the Apple TV in a standalone app soon (like Netflix and Hulu), and they already allow AirPlay streaming.
- instrmntl0
That as well as mobile, XBox, Surface etc.

Word on the street is that they're going to start offering stand-alone subscriptions to HBO Go without having to have an existing cable TV subscription.
About goddamn time. I hope they can pull it off.
- fingers crossedmonospaced
- I'd pay $15/month for it if it had NO annual contractmonospaced
- Me too. They have enough quality content that they air.d_rek
- that'd be sweetfyoucher1
- it's going to be a long time before this happens....people get cable for hbo....cable company are internet providers.....they will not easily be cut out of the loop.linearch
- cable companies will not be easily cut out of the loop.linearch
- perhaps, but I don't think cable companies can stop themmonospaced

hahaha I used to work on that site. The reason its shit is because the old people who work their. They don't like change. It's all Astral media.
- Did Huge outsource it? If so that's not surprising. I hear they do that a lot.instrmntl
- it's all outsources... then run by idiots...I even worked for one of the places they outsourced too.
Claymantis - Crazy. I had a friend at Huge that was a pm. I hear it's a mess.instrmntl
- its been a couple years for me... but yea its a huge mess.Claymantis

Just wondering when are they gonna redesign this one...looks like it could use a refresh.
- monospaced0
More importantly, when are they gonna update this? It seems like it could be done pretty easily with HTML.
- They need to bring this badboy back! That music makes me want to go run a marathon.fyoucher1

been reading about how HBO is in consideration of offering their HBO GO service to non-cable subscribers. I think this would be a fantastic move. Especially for users who want to cut the $100 a month bill. time warner cable would gain more market share even though they'd lose a fraction of their current subscribers but only shifts them to the GO service.

I'm not sure how this would affect services like Netflix and Amazon Prime. on some level, i think those who cut the cable bill would go to hbo for exclusive content that HBO is known for and find that using Netflix would expand their video selections. basically mimicking the behavior of people whom cut the cable at the moment.

HBO's Chief technology officer has resigned. Management did not have faith his team could build the technology required to support the new streaming service.
Maybe b/c he built in flash?

That guy was trying to shift the team from NY to Seattle. Needless to say my friend that used to work there wasn't too pleased. What an ass for doing that, then leaving.
